What You Will Achieve in This Role:

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be exposed to all facets of the Operations department while providing operational backup support and coverage to the Deposit, Settlements, Loans, and Trading units. You will lead and coordinate Canadian operational-related projects, analyze and optimize business processes to mitigate risks and enhance efficiency, manage internal and external relationships while overseeing third-party vendors, and liaise with front/middle office members. Furthermore, you will prepare head office and management reporting, stay up to date on market trends, complete reports on AML/Sanctions-related transactions, and maintain internal controls to ensure operational excellence.

• Develop, implement, and manage policies and procedures to ensure the safety and efficiency of operations, and to achieve maximum customer service.
• Lead all projects and initiatives for Canadian operations, working with front, middle, back office, and corporate function members to achieve project goals.
• Drive operational excellence in collaboration with the unit heads to improve processes and reduce inefficiencies.
• Manage Canadian operations and third-party vendor relationships in accordance with the bank’s third-party risk management program.
• Serve as direct liaison on operational risk issues, BCP events, and rehearsals.
• Ensure unit heads monitor internal controls for all Canada-related operations to minimize operational risk.
• Ensure business units maintain high levels of professionalism, quality, and efficiency, as well as a high level of technical support to the staff members, account officers, and client base.
• Manage Canada Nostro Bank and SWIFT RMA relationship(s), including establishment, pricing, and termination.
• Develop, monitor, and modify business plans for Canadian operations.
• Keep abreast of market issues, developments, new products, systems, etc. while providing operational input for any new product requests.
• Monitor/control business report preparation.
• Control the Canadian branch’s important articles in custody with semi‐annual self‐inspection including the list of documents kept in the operations’ fireproof cabinet and safe.
• Report promptly to Senior Management on any irregularities in job processes or results.
• Address head office and local requests including reporting, survey participation, and other requests on operational-related matters.
• Designated as the Operations person responsible for reporting potentially prohibited transaction(s) (AML/Sanction related) upon detection.

What You Must Bring to This Role:

• University or College degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in a financial institution, preferably with experience in Treasury Back Office Operations, Settlement, Deposit, Cheque Clearing, Loans, Trade Finance, and/or Remittances.
• Experience with SWIFT Operations.
• Knowledge of Canadian Regulatory requirements pertaining to banking operations, payments, and AML/Trade reporting (OSFI, Payments Canada, FINTRAC).
• Experience with Correspondent Bank Accounts.
• Experience dealing with external vendors and managing external relationships.
• Experience reviewing existing processes, automating where possible, and strengthening controls to minimize risks.
