Job Description
The Department Manager is the first point of contact for the employees and managers in their assigned teams with regards to performance management, personnel movement, employment conditions and project assignments. They work alongside our production and recruitment teams to identify what positions need to be filled for each show, making sure our resources are allocated appropriately.
Main responsibilities:
Working with the Head of Department and the Crew Planning Manager, liaise with Producers and Supervisors to resource VFX Projects with the best available talent;
Meet with show production and supervision on a regular basis to discuss the progress of the work on each show, raise staffing or scheduling issues and propose solutions;
Ensure the onboarding of talent onto our workflows and pipeline, ensuring training plans are respected and ensuring they are properly integrated into their teams;
Act as the first point of contact for contractual matters or employment conditions, career development, project allocation and any training requests;
Work closely with other Department Managers to manage cross department communication and workflow, to ensure consistency in practices;
Provide support to Heads of Department as needed, organising department meetings and following up on action items;
In collaboration with Project Supervisors and Heads of Department, conduct performance reviews, delivering effective feedback;
Liaise with the Crew Planning Manager to manage any vacation requests and make sure time off is approved by the show;
Work alongside the training team to follow through on training and development needs and assist with internal training initiatives as needed;
Work with the Head of Department to handle disciplinary issues;
Work with the Heads of Department to maintain consistency in salary levels and lead the annual salary review process;
Work closely with Heads of Department to ensure teams are well balanced in terms of expertise, level and skills;
Identify vacancies to the recruitment team and work closely with them to ensure that the right candidates are hired, driving decision making on candidate selection with Heads of Department;
Communicate needs for the creation or review of policies, processes, programs and guidelines to the HR team, participating in their development and implementation;
Promote RodeoFX’s external positioning by actively sharing social media posts and acting as an ambassador at all times;
Contribute positively to department morale by organizing social and team building events.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of experience in an operational human resources or a management role within the VFX industry;
Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or other related degree;
Strong knowledge of GSuite, Word, Excel and Shotgun;
Good knowledge of Quebec Labour Standards;
Strong spoken & written communication skills in English and French;
Confidentiality and discretion;
Strong interpersonal and coaching skills, organization, prioritization, decision-making, judgement, initiative and negotiation.
