Rosenau Transport Ltd is currently recruiting to fill a Safety Advisor position for our Corporate Safety Office. This Safety Sensitive position will provide front line support for the Rosenau Safety Department to foster a continuous improvement culture focused on process, occupational health and safety, and operational integrity requiring professional communication with all levels of management and staff. This position reports to directly to the Manager, Safety & Training and will be located in the Head Office in Edmonton.
Work Performed
· Conducts formal and informal site inspections and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, standards and company regulations;
· Completes all required reporting and reviews corrective measures with terminal manager and employees;
· Provides retraining and support for implementation of corrective action plan;
· Assist in the development, administration and promotion of the company’s Health and Safety policies and programs;
· Completes and submits all incident reports and responds as necessary to ensure incidents are managed effectively and as required;
· Evaluates work procedures and work sites to identify potential hazards;
· Documents findings and makes recommendations for risk mitigating controls;
· Conducts follow-up to ensure controls have been successfully implemented.;
· Advises managers and employees about safe work procedures, safety standards and regulatory requirements;
· Assists in the development and delivers training sessions to build knowledge, skills and competencies to allow workers to meet their responsibilities and ensure competencies;
· Acts as a safety resource to all management and staff;
· Sources health and safety material, information and services as required;
· Responds to all inquiries from management and employees on health and safety matters, and provides guidance, support, assistance as required;
· Understands, adheres to and supports all company Health & Safety policies and procedures to ensure the safety of themselves and others;
· Collaborate with workers, supervision and management as required to effectively administer the Health and Safety program at Edmonton Terminal and Shop Facilities.
· Actively promote and demonstrate a “Safety First” attitude;
· Performs other duties as required;
Education/Work Experience
· 3+ years in an Occupational Health and Safety role;
· NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) Certification, Occupational Health and Safety Certificate, or Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution;
· Experience in the transportation or logistics industries an asset.;
· Experienced in conducting safety inspections and incident investigations;
· Experienced in adult in class instruction/training;
· PDIC (Professional Driver Improvement Course) Instructor certified from AMTA an asset;
· LCV (Long Combination Vehicle) Instructor certified from AMTA an asset;
· TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) Instructor certification;
· Class 1 driver’s license preferred.
Skills
· Excellent communication and negotiation skills both verbal and written;
· Proficient in Microsoft word programs;
· Experience in professional writing of procedures, policies, safety training
material and reporting;
· Knowledge of National Safety Code (NSC), Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code and Canadian Labour Code Legislation.
Required
· Flexible schedule and willingness to respond to safety incidents as required;
· Criminal record clearance;
· Current drivers abstract, with less than 4 demerits;
· Successful passing of drug/alcohol screening pre-employment and random testing;
