Royal Ontario Museum Looking for Museum Educator at Toronto, Ontario, Canada Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Museum Educator delivers educational programming, both onsite and online, on various Museum topics. Using learner-centered pedagogical approaches, this role collaborates with a team of Museum Educators, Indigenous Knowledge Resource Teachers (IKRT), and Digital Learning staff to engage students, teachers, and adult learners. The incumbent may also provide training and guidance to School Programs staff and assist in managing the teaching collection.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create and deliver engaging gallery and hands-on lab experiences for School Programs, covering diverse topics related to 21st Century competencies, Museum collections, Ontario curriculum guidelines, Indigenous worldviews, and special exhibitions. Customize programs to meet learner needs.
• Develop engaging virtual learning experiences for School Programs using digital tools, emphasizing interdisciplinary and active learning. Adapt programs to align with learner needs, intended outcomes, and technological competence.
• Collaboratively develop new programs, aligning with inquiry-based object learning and anti-racist education principles, in support of the Ontario Curriculum and departmental strategy. Adapt programs for delivery in French, online, or onsite.
• Support the maintenance of teaching materials, collections, and departmental library. Assist in teacher professional development and coordination of co-op or internship placements.
• Collaborate with the team to develop specialized museum pedagogical techniques for onsite and online learning. Pilot new programs and participate in pedagogical training sessions.
• Contribute to promotional and learning resource materials for School Programs. Provide professional development and mentorship to co-op students and interns.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A 4-year degree in Education or a museum-related subject from an accredited post-secondary institution, or equivalent education and experience. Ontario Teaching Certificate or specialist teaching certificate is advantageous.
• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant teaching experience, including equity and anti-racist education knowledge. Proficiency in addressing sensitive topics such as residential schools, genocide, and racism would be a significant asset.
• Experience in delivering online educational programs and using standard computer applications for communication and collaboration.
• Knowledge of Ontario curriculum alignment and active learning approaches for children, youth, and adults. Commitment to continuous learning and pedagogical improvement.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, as well as conflict management abilities. Proven research and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in digital, audio, and visual technologies for educational purposes.
• Fluency in French may be required.
