Barrier Ridge Capital (“BRC”) is a unique privately owned Canadian private equity firm with a different approach. BRC utilizes its success in a variety of operating companies to view and manage private equity and real estate investment opportunities through an entrepreneur’s lens.
We are looking for a Senior Staff Accountant to join our team in our Aurora office (by the GO station). Reporting to the Controller, this position will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day accounting, and to help with the growth and sustainability of the business.
Responsibilities
- Assist with bookkeeping in various companies in respective ERP systems to properly account for the financial activities
- Prepare monthly journal entries and perform account reconciliations
- Provide analysis on actual to budget
- Prepare and file sales tax returns
- Assist with the preparation of financial and operational reports
- Support with gathering, analyzing, and interpreting financial information
- Assist in monthly bank reporting tasks within assigned deadlines
- Performing bank reconciliation procedures
- Assist in preparation of financial statements of various companies
- Assist in the development and maintenance of procedures and systems
- Maintain consistency of adherence to accounting policies and goals, and suggest changes/improvements, where appropriate
- Prepare audit documents for both internal and external audits
- Lead other accounting team members
- Ad hoc projects and duties, as needed
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ previous accounting experience at a similar level
- A CPA designation, or almost completed CPA designation
- Knowledge of ASPE standards
- Multi-company experience
- Strong sense of responsibility and be able to work independently
- Ability to work with multiple projects having deadlines
- Strong knowledge of the Microsoft 365 environment including Excel
- Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Keen on taking initiatives and having proactive attitude
- Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills
