RSM Canada is looking for a Tax Manager to join the expanding Financial Services practice in our Toronto or Kitchener office. This role provides an opportunity to join a high-performing, high-growth tax practice while working with complex clients in one or more of the following sectors within our Financial Services practice: Asset Management, Financial Institutions, Insurance, Specialty Finance and Brokerage and Trading. As a Tax Manager for RSM you will be responsible for the following job duties which are focused around three core concepts (Technical & Quality Expertise, People & Talent Management, and Client Service/Business Development):
- Lead and manage the business relationship of complex engagements with a focus on high-value quality tax advice and seek to expand services to clients
- Serve as a Career Advisor, mentor or coach to one or more employees, which will include providing honest and timely performance feedback
- Train and develop staff members
- Work on multiple complex issues while communicating in a client-centric manner
- Assist with new business development, extended service and tax issue recognition for existing clients
- Advise clients on a full spectrum of corporate tax services, including planning, research, compliance, and tax accounting
- Provide detailed review and analysis of tax returns
- Assist the assurance team with tax provision reviews and prepare and review tax provision working papers for non-assurance clients
- Reviewing research findings and ensure conclusions are consistent with firm policies and professional standards
- Build relationships across lines of business to ensure excellent client service through an integrated service approach
- Remain up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law
- Some travel may be required
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree – preferably in Accounting or related field of study
- CPA Designation
- Working towards or completion of Masters of Tax or CPA In-depth Tax Program
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Public Accounting preferably in a tax focused role
- Ability to work closely with clients to answer questions or to collect necessary information for tax service requirements
- Extensive tax compliance & consulting experience serving Financial Services clients
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act and technical aspects of tax compliance and accounting
- Strong technical skills in tax preparation, developing tax focus areas
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience in dealing with international tax matters and tax review a plus
