The Opportunity
Reporting to the Associate Vice President, the Director, Product Development will play a key role developing high quality educational products that support a modern workforce and a rapidly changing landscape.
The Director is responsible for researching employment and skills trends, along with understanding the latest delivery modalities, market needs and end-user learning technologies. You will identify, develop and support the delivery of a best in market experience for students.
With a focus on building relationships, you maintain strategic business relationships both internally and externally to ensure SAIT provides a responsive and unique range of fee for service learning solutions. You understand the importance of developing key relationships to support product development and revenue targets, manage margins and position SAIT as a leader in continuing education and professional studies.
You have an entrepreneurial mindset, focusing on learning products that address learner needs and industry requirements while supporting revenue growth. You will lead a team to ensure products are scalable and multi-purposed for individual learners, group training and international clients. An important part of the role is to ensure a strong customer focus by developing products and systems that are easy to navigate and incorporate technology that builds, tracks and rewards learner success.
The Role
Integrate a vision, strategy and implementation plan for Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) in alignment with SAIT’s 5-year strategic plan
Ensure the department’s business plan is developed, implemented and monitored in keeping with SAIT’s and Corporate Development, Applied Research & International’s (CDARI) vision, objectives and institutional policies and procedures
Develop a strategic and responsive CEPS product development unit that is student-centric, industry-relevant, and unique to SAIT
Lead and drive the overall coordination and integration of CEPS with an emphasis on innovative product development for multiple learner audiences, including international students
Build programs and product development modalities with subject matter experts, co-creation with companies and industry associations, and enable licensing and use of open educational resources
Collaborate with Marketing to uniquely position and market SAIT’s CEPS programs
Provide risk management and oversight for product development and programming, including program and process review, product creation and sourcing, costing and delivery
Manage budgets and support setting revenue targets and monitor spending to ensure revenue margin targets are achieved
Build new relationships and expand existing partnerships to grow, fund and develop new products, programs and services
Initiate, coordinate and interpret market research relevant to continuing education and professional studies to competitively position SAIT’s programs locally, nationally and internationally
Foster a creative and inclusive work environment
Encourage and recognize high performance, engagement and daily creativity
Lead with a collaborative approach that drives the engagement of a centralized strategy, removing silos and focusing energy on collective targets
Prioritize and understand the importance of the learner/customer experience as a differentiator for SAIT’s CEPS programs and brand
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of a Degree in Education or Social Science, or related field; a Masters is preferred
Minimum ten years’ educational product development experience in progressively senior positions
Experience working in a post-secondary environment focused on non-credit courses and programs is strongly preferred
Experience managing a team is required; managing in a unionized environment is preferred
Understanding of adult education and curriculum development
Knowledgeable of trends and best practices in continuing education and professional studies; able to connect product offerings with industry needs
Deep understanding how to leverage technology to produce and deliver high quality courses
