S2223-235 – Temporary Education Assistant: Secondary – Lifeskills, 28.75 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The current rate of pay is $26.46 per hour plus 15.5% in lieu of benefits.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 education supplemented by Human Services Worker program certificate and Autism training such as Provincial Outreach Program for Autism & Related Disorders (POPARD); valid Food Safe Level 1 certification is preferred; valid Crisis Prevention
Intervention (CPI) certification, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) training and experience with Assistive Technology such as Augmentative Communication are preferred; one year recent experience supporting students with a variety of learning and behavioural needs such as those with chronic health and physical impairments, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, learning and intellectual disabilities; valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license and license appropriate to the type of
equipment/vehicle being operated and a personal vehicle available for use on the job; ability to work effectively with staff and students; willingness to work in an inclusionary setting supporting differentiated instruction with adapted and modified curriculum; meets the physical requirements of the position including lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as bending, pushing and pulling; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Duties are performed under the supervision of the school Principal, Vice Principal and the Principal of Inclusive Education or designate; follows the guidance and leadership of the Lifeskills teacher, and district support teacher; provides support to individual
students or small groups of students across multiple settings at the secondary level; provides support for classroom instruction, activities of daily living, and behaviour support for low incidence students in accordance with the individual education plan; adapts assignments as directed by the teacher to meet individual student needs; carries out personal and health care routines as directed; provides information to school based team, itinerant staff or relevant agency personnel as requested by School/Program Leaders; facilitates inclusion of students with special needs into a variety of core and elective classes; commitment to building positive relationship with teen age and young adult students; assists students in off-site program and work experience as required; participates in student observation, data collection and the implementation of the individual education and behaviour plans; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor; student supervision as required by the Principal or Vice Principal.
