Job Description
The “Competitive Testing & Hardware Engineer” will be an integral part of the Propulsion Systems Benchmarking and Value Optimization group, responsible for conducting comprehensive evaluations of competitive hybrid/electric vehicles at both the vehicle and component levels. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional product development teams to plan experiments, set up data acquisition systems, analyze and interpret results, and generate reports for peers, supervisors, and product development teams.
Duties
- Instrument competitive test vehicles with various sensors (accelerometers, thermocouples, microphones, etc.) to collect data for characterizing and monitoring vehicle performance on the track and during rolls.
- Conduct competitive teardown workshops and reviews on competitive batteries, Electric Drive Units, and power electronic units.
- Interface with the costing team to generate a “Bill of Material” for competitive hardware torn down internally or at a supplier.
- Analyze manufacturing process best practices and consolidate this information with the propulsion and Functional design integration team.
- Perform on-track drivability assessments at Chelsea Proving grounds to support competitive benchmarking activities, utilizing tools like Vehicle Spy, OBD scanner to acquire CAN and PID channels.
- Conduct tests on several federally mandated test cycles on the dyno to understand competitive strategies related to fuel economy/emissions and EV range.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent engineering degree from an accredited university.
- 1-2 years of prior OEM/Supplier experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Analytical problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills and fundamental knowledge of Hybrid, Electric automotive architectures.
Additional Information
This position is based in Auburn Hills, MI. The candidate will need to be eligible for TN Visa.
