Summary of the Opportunity
SelfDesign Learning Community has an immediate need for online grade 10-12 educators (called Learning Consultants) for the 2024-25 learning year. We welcome applications from B.C. certified teachers with a background in grades 10-12 and Special Education (called Support Education at SelfDesign), and a desire to work in a unique online learning environment in support of learners. There are part-time opportunities available.
Our learning consultants (LCs) have weekly one-on-one communication with learners to facilitate Career Life courses (including self-assessment) and nurture individual learner passions and dreams. In addition, our 10-12 Support Education LCs work collaboratively with learners/families to create individual education plans (IEPs) based on learner needs and goals. LCs maintain records in order to inform their seasonal assessments and complete IEP reviews.

Work Environment
We are a remote organization.
Learning Consultants set their own hours of work. They may meet with learners/ families via video-conferencing at mutually agreed upon times.

Contract end date: July 31, 2025
Budget
Support Education Learning Consultants are paid on a per learner basis of $3,033 per learner per year

Contract Details
Oversight
You will work at the direction of the Team Lead listed above, and in close collaboration with the Educator Services team.
Services Required
Weekly teacherly support of learning (once weekly video conferencing)
Weekly maintenance of learner assessment records
Seasonal assessments (report cards)
Participate in regular mentor-led orientation, meetings and workshops
Preparation and review of Individual education plans (IEPs)
Skills & Competencies
Willingness to be mentored in and adopt SelfDesign’s heart-centred philosophy and methodology.
Timeliness in completing weekly/seasonal tasks and documentation.
Inclusive practice that accepts and respects diverse backgrounds and approaches to learning.
Ability to create IEPs and support students with low incidence designations.
Create and manage learner IEP Resources and Services
Positive energy, upbeat and excited about learning.
Able to adapt to new situations and online tools.
Experience and Credentials
B.C. Certified teacher in good standing
Training and/or experience with students with low incidence designations
Experience working with learners in grades 10-12
Experience and/or interest in learner-centered education
Experience and/or interest in personalized, passion-based learning
Experience and/or interest in online learning
Mandatory Requirements
If You Are Offered And Accept This Contract Opportunity
Prior to being contracted, applicants must successfully complete an online orientation (approximately 12-15 asynchronous hours in June 2024) This orientation supports deeper learning about SelfDesign philosophy and approach, and connects new educators with their mentors.
All contractors are required to take the SelfDesign online privacy and security fundamentals courses (approximately 1 hour per course).
