Position: Junior Financial Planner & Tax Analyst
Location: Remote during COVID-19 and two days in the Montreal office after (Atwater metro)

Are you a junior candidate looking for a chance to get your first experience in the wealth management world? Our client, a wealth management boutique with a very high net worth clientele, is looking for you! The role in question is a balance between fiscal and financial compliance, and tax and financial planning. Personality is key for this role, as it heavy on white-gloved customer service. The dynamic between the team is very important. Please note that this is an extremely diversified role that will change week to week. It has financial, retirement, wealth management, and estate planning components, as well as a heavy tax component during the tax season. There is no sales element to this role.

We are looking for the following profile:

– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
– Strong skills in building relationships with clients, rather than merely carrying out transactions
– Good teamwork and organizational skills
– Analytical mind, ability to synthesize, writing skills, and attention to detail
– Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written – critical to the client base
– Interest in pursuing a Financial Planner diploma and title from the Institut Québécois de Planification Financière (IQPF), a strong asset

Tax and Financial Compliance Responsibilities:

– Helping to prepare work files and coordinating with outside specialists for the preparation of corporate financial statements, tax returns, commodity tax reports, and annual resolutions and returns
– Helping to coordinate with outside specialists for the preparation of Canadian and U.S. personal income tax returns, trust and estate returns, clearance certificates, and voluntary disclosures
– Helping the review of Canadian and U.S. personal income tax returns, corporate income tax returns, trust and estate returns
– Helping to communicate with tax authorities regarding the information required for tax and financial planning
– Helping with the preparation of payroll deduction calculations and tax slips
– Helping with the coordination of estate settlement

Tax and Financial Planning Responsibilities:

– Helping the preparation of retirement projections, income and expense projections, personal balance sheets, and tax proformas
– Participate in the implementation of strategies to reduce the tax burden of clients
– Prepare reports for estate planning purposes (estate balances, estate taxes, and estate liquidity)
– Prepare analyses of inter-spousal loans
– Prepare pension fund analyses and participate in the consultation of available options
– Helping the preparation of stock and stock option reports, and participate in the consultation of exercises and grants
– Participate in the development of tax and estate planning, retirement, investment, and risk management recommendations
