Position: Production Director
Location: Lasalle
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
A forward-looking manufacturing company that leads development in customized architectural lighting systems for the North American market is looking for a Production Director.
The Production Director will lead a team of five business units / Production Managers, who have around 165 direct reports. Their focus will be to deliver on the company’s strategy and goals and continuously improve production processes. The Production Director works in coordination with the BU Managers, Quality Manager, CI Manager, and Production Planning team, reports to the Senior Director of Manufacturing, and insures a smooth operation on the production floor and a culture of continuous improvement and cooperation.
Job Description:
– Leads the production team by ensuring that all the necessary tools, processes, and systems are in place to meet their goals
– Oversees and participates in daily operations such as scheduling, staffing, quality, and cost effectiveness
– Works on continuously improving production capacity and capability
– Continuously improves on production-related KPIs through various projects and actions
– Coaches and assists the BU Managers in problem solving and achieving their daily targets
– Creates a teamwork environment with focus on continuous improvement by everybody everyday
– Is responsible to create and/or improve department procedures and processes, and ensures that they are respected and executed diligently
– Actively participates in the creation and implementation of optimization and investment projects
– Participates actively with knowledge & improvement ideas to continuous improvement program
– Participates in Kaizen events
– Ensures complete compliance with defined procedures and policies (Safety, 5S, Attendance, etc.)
– Carries out human resources responsibilities in cooperation with HR department and in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
– Interviews, hires and trains employees
– Plans, assigns, and directs labor work
– Motivates, coaches, and evaluates employee’s performance and recommends salary reviews
– Applies disciplinary measures whenever necessary
– Addresses complaints and resolves problems
– Identifies overall training needs and works with HR to develop and implement training sessions
– Promotes safe usage of all equipment
– Collaborates with the Health and Safety Team to ensure employees adhere to the safety practices and policies
Requirements:
– Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
– 3 years’ production experience + 2 years’ experience as a Manager (not team leader) that has applied Lean principles in manufacturing (not just knows them)
– 5-6 years’ total experience
– MS Office (especially Excel, intermediate level or better)
– ERP system (Epicor is a plus)
Other:
– Strong knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing, a must
– LSS Green or Black Belt certification is a definite plus
– Solid understanding of engineering for manufacturing techniques, including assembly, sheet metal, extrusions, and die-casting moulding
– Strong English, French an asset
