The Preconstruction Coordinator’s role is to provide the knowledge, skills and experience to assist the Design, Cost Control, Utility and Quality departments in the creation of feasible designs, specifications and project budgets. The role is responsible for facilitating the design, application and set up of all power and utility services in accordance with preconstruction design schedule, and site construction schedule. The role will communicate and resolve utility conflicts and ensure all site distribution is approved and installed without delaying project schedules.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the design, coordination, approval and installation of Hydro, Tel, and Gas utilities on all projects
• Provide one set of coordinated site plans showing all Civil, Electrical and Utility services, as designed by others, with no conflicts, prior to breaking ground.
• Review and become familiar with design intent and construction methods
• Review drawings and specifications and identify areas of concern and importance
• Liaise with the Development Department to ensure design deliverable dates are met
• Work with the Director to create a Preconstruction Handover Package format for handover to the Project and Construction Management teams, and deliver these packages in a timely manner
• Ensure Construction Management and Site Staff have the applicable utility contacts for each project
• Alert the teams of any long lead or cost prohibitive items as early as possible
• Liaise continuously between the Development, Design, Civil, Project and Construction Management teams
• Manage the status of utility permits and approvals with internal and external stakeholders
• Host Bi-weekly utility update meetings with the COO
• Identifying and pursue future utility entry points for upcoming projects
• Maintain professional working relationships with utility companies in each jurisdiction
• Maintain a professional working relationship with all engineering consultants
• Communicate relevant project information to the client and project team
• Keep the Director informed about any issues by providing regular feedback and updates
• Actively work to improve issues and efficiencies through process and procedure creation and implementation

REQUIREMENTS

• The ability to lead and work well within a team
• Possess an approachable and friendly demeaner, with the ability to maintain positive and mutually beneficial relationships
• Post-secondary education in an applicable field of study
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in project coordination, design, estimating, or construction management.
• Working knowledge in residential and commercial construction
• Advanced level of proficiency with MS Office Suite and on-screen takeoff software
• Working experience with construction management software or ERPStrong customer service and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work well under pressure in a changing environment
• Strong attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills
