Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centred clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
The Emergency Medical Services Education Officer is a member of Prairie Mountain Health Emergency Medical Services and is responsible for the care of patients as well as the promotion and coordination of comprehensive EMS education/training and Quality Assurance / Continuous Quality Improvement programs within Prairie Mountain Health. Primary responsibilities relate to patient care, professional standards, treatment of the ill and injured, maintenance of equipment and vehicles, and education as outlined in the ambulance act.
Functions are conducted in accordance with the Mission and Values of Shared Health, current policies and procedures and applicable legislation.
Experience
Minimum five (5) years experience in EMS, with two (2) years at an Advanced Life Support level
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
Eligible for and maintains licensure to practice as a Technician Paramedic in the Province of Manitoba acquired within three (3) months of appointment, Technician Advanced Paramedic Licensure preferred
Certification/Licensure/Registration
Physical Fitness Assessment provided by the University of Manitoba or an Emergency Services Physical Fitness Assessment approved by a Kinesiology Education Program
Current instructor certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification, instructor status preferred
PHTLS, ITLS, PALS, NRP certification an asset
Province of Manitoba Class 4 Drivers License, including clean drivers abstract, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
Qualifications and Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
Demonstrated leadership
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
Ability to prioritize in a changing environment
Strong organizational, decision making and problem solving skills
Ability to display independent judgment
Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
