Shermco Canada is seeking a Staff Accountant.
STAFF ACCOUNTANT
Join our team of leaders in electrical power system maintenance, repair, testing & training. We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team in Canada.
Job Summary: Work closely with the Senior Accounting Manager – Canada to perform daily and monthly accounting functions for accurate and timely production of financial records, including cost accounting, monthly tax reporting, journal entries, assisting with budgeting, month end close and some financial analysis.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: The following essential duties and responsibilities must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Responsible for support accounting services for selected processes and countries, which include accounting for administrative expenses, assist in payment processing, coordinate month-end general ledger close, prepare balance sheet reconciliations, provide P&L analysis.
- Act as a point of contact for selected partners located throughout the country and selected processes.
- Maintain and balance an automated consolidation system by inputting data, scheduling required jobs, verifying data.
- Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions, resolving discrepancies.
- Prepare monthly tax remittance filings across various provinces.
- Prepare and provide documentation for external auditors.
- Ensure internal controls are in place and monitored, financial processes are performed timely and accurately, and all accounting is done in accordance with Shermco Policies and GAAP.
- Handling ad-hoc requests on a timely manner.
- Respond to Business contacts/customers directly and to deliver error free process.
- Build supportive relationships with peers and colleagues.
- Other duties as assigned to help Shermco be successful.
Qualifications and Requirements: Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; alternative degree may substitute with relevant experience.
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in a fast-paced business environment, preferably in a corporate setting.
Other Requirements:
- Good understanding of GAAP practices.
- Understanding of Canadian taxes, including GST/HST and PST across provinces.
- Quick learner on new and various systems.
- Self-starter with good MS-office skills.
- Strong team player and ability to handle tasks under pressure and in a timely manner with required quality.
- Work independently with limited supervision.
- Good interpersonal & communication skills, with ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively read and understand financial statements including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
- Willingness and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with varying personalities.
