Job Description
Shopify’s Support Learning & Development team is responsible for all learning and development initiatives within the Support organization. In this role, you will make an impact by supporting the Learning Experience Design (instructional design), Support Onboarding, and the Support Leadership Education teams. You will ensure the teams are appropriately resourced, remove any barriers that may slow their work down and eliminate frictions so they can focus on delivering the best learning and development experiences possible. You will be responsible for continuing to develop and implement organization-wide Learning & Development strategies that facilitate and drive individual development in line with the needs of the business.
You will need to be an excellent communicator and collaborator as the role entails working closely with various department heads and leadership in the business to develop learning initiatives that align to the needs of the business as well as working with key stakeholders such as Quality Assurance, Talent, Knowledge Management, and Senior Support Leadership teams.
Support Learning & Development programs work closely with each other, as well as with other education programs at Shopify both within and outside of Support. Time will be split between facilitating the growth and development of direct reports, working closely with senior leadership to develop and oversee the strategic direction of both Advisor and Support Leadership education programs. Ensuring the quality of the learning experiences delivered is top notch, and working with data to demonstrate training effectiveness and analyze areas for future training focus will be key areas of focus.
You’ll work closely with your reports, peers, and stakeholders to deliver strong business results through empowering your team to do their best work. You will exude resourcefulness by using all the available tools and data points to leverage the team’s strengths, and build on their areas of opportunity. You will be responsible for maintaining a pulse on the fast-changing landscape of learning and development, developing high impact strategies to drive the team and the craft forward, ensuring operational effectiveness, developing strong stakeholder relationships, and balancing the needs of the team and of the business. Strong project management skills and proven skills in developing/maintaining a positive and high impact team culture will be key.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Lead a global team of Leaders and Individual Contributors in the facilitation, instructional design, and program management space.
Responsible for the assessment and identification of the Support organization’s training and development needs; to include: development, implementation, and improvement of all business-wide training efforts.
Ensures consistency in the delivery and application of training standards across the business and oversees the planning, prioritization, and development of new training programs and initiatives, ensuring that these programs and initiatives are consistent with the overall business strategy, objectives, and needs.
Monitors and ensures the achievement of results.
Plays a strategic role in the development and documentation of the training path for the business.
Liaises with various other department leaders ensuring proper execution of ongoing training programs in order to achieve the desired results and ultimately improve the overall performance of the business.
Able to introduce the latest and most applicable trends in training and development for inclusion in the overall strategy, constantly maintaining and updating training programs.
Maintain a consistent culture in the business with regard to training and development.
Qualifications
5+ years of learning and development experience including developing, implementing, and evaluating training; at least 2+ years in a leadership role, preferably in a technology company.
Proven success leading a training and development department, leading to the proper execution of programs, subsequent improvement of employee performance across the business, and ultimately the achievement of the business’ goals.
Demonstrated experience in content creation, maintenance of training processes, and the successful development of ongoing training and development programs.
Ability to prioritize tasks completing multiple tasks in a timely manner, be flexible and welcoming to change.
Strong leadership qualities, with the ability to influence a cross-functional team.
Expertise with the latest instructional technologies and processes.
Creativity & innovation.
Knowledge of effective adult-learning and development methods.
Familiarity with e-learning platforms and practices.
Accountability to the highest standard of excellence.
