Simon Fraser University Looking for Analyst, Policy and Academic Affairs at Burnaby, BC Full Time

The Analyst, Policy and Academic Affairs provides advice to support decision-making by the Dean, Associate Deans, senior administrators, faculty and staff regarding the interpretation and application of academic policies, ensuring compliance and consistency on academic administrative issues. The Analyst facilitates timely communications and implementation of university academic policies, procedures, and business process changes. The role prepares financial and employee reports on projected workloads, study leave salary recovery, and sessional, visiting/limited term and, teaching and research assistants. The Analyst administers academic personnel processes in the School, including employee management; continuing and short-term teaching; TA and RA contracts; draft contract and agreement language for appointments; ensures contract offers are within the correct framework of academic policy, SFUFA, or TSSU agreements; and interprets and applies workload policies and addendum VPA and HR guidelines to ensure all employees are meeting workload requirements and contractual obligations to the School and University.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or a related discipline, and five years of related administrative, human resource management, or business administration experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

• Ability to interpret and apply collective agreements and administrative policies and procedures.
• Ability to resolve contentious issues, gain consensus, and reconcile diverse points of view.
• Ability to interpret policies, and develop recommendations, procedures, principles, and practices.
• Ability to train, delegate, and supervise the work of temporary support staff.
• Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with faculty, non-academic personnel, staff, and senior administrators.
• Ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to work in a highly demanding environment where issues are diverse and complex.
• Ability to accomplish objectives, set priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
• Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, enterprise systems, web design tools and desktop publishing applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PeopleSoft, Canvas, MySQL, CQ5, Adobe CS).
