Nature &Scope of Work
The purpose of this position is to assist in the caretaking and maintenance of Simpcw Archives and the collections it holds in support of the efficient delivery of cultural heritage, title & rights, and research information for and about Simpcw and Simpcwemc within Simpcwulecw. The successful applicant will work closely with, and report to, the Archives Coordinator, as directed by the Natural Resource Manager, as well as other Simpcw staff, departments and consultants as directed. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently at times.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supports the effective and efficient delivery of research information for Simpcw First Nation to manage and coordinate Simpcw’s activities for the use, management, and preservation of Simpcw cultural knowledge, history, and information. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in research projects and reports related to genealogy, culture and heritage, title & rights or other information
- Collection maintenance, including data entry, digitization or migration of holdings, creating, entering or maintaining databases
- Reviewing and analyzing research returns
- Participating in or conducting oral interviews
- lifting and carrying boxes and/or books weighing up to 30 lbs
- Arrangement and/or description of archival holdings
- Retrieval or replacement of archival materials
- Reviewing, producing summaries of, or transcribing historical documents (incl udes reading cursive handwriting)
- Training and seminars as required
- Aid in the delivery of community presentations or workshops
Qualifications:
- Strong experience or interest in Simpcw culture, heritage, knowledge, and values.
- Ability to work both within a team environment as well as independently.
- Have reliable transportation, a valid BC driver’s license and a clean drivers abstract
- Must successfully pass a criminal record check.
- Must comply with Simpcw COVI0-19 Best Practices and Protocols.
- Have a high school diploma.
Skills & Abilities
- Willingness to learn research procedures, archival practices, and develop new skills.
- Extensive first hand knowledge of Simpcw and Secwepemc language, culture, history, customs, traditions, and challenges.
- Be willing to learn or build upon existing Secwepemctsin language skills
- Possess organizational and time management skills, be able to multi-task
- proficiency in Microsoft office, word, Power point and excel and comfortable working with computers.
- Experience building and supporting cooperative and productive relationships.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Ability to take and follow direction.

Salary: From $15.65 per hour
