Position Overview:
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Finance must be a strategic and forward-thinking leader who can balance high-level oversight with the more hands-on elements of the position. The Director will be a highly trusted and valued partner to the Chief Administrative Officer and Leadership Team. The Director will be responsible for and oversee a team of 5 staff in the finance department and will contribute to the overall success of the organization by effectively leading and managing all financial and accounting functions for the Congregation and other corporate entities under service contracts. The successful candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, has a strong commitment to deadlines, is detail and process oriented with a high sense of ownership in their work and has a strong financial modelling and analysis skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct and oversee all aspects of the finance & accounting functions of the organization including: payroll; accounts payable and receivable; annual operating and capital budgeting; internal, external and government reporting; preparation and submission of all necessary regulatory filings, including the annual charity return.
Direct the preparation of quarter-end close and year-end working papers and liaise with external auditors for the conduct of the annual audit.
Develop long-term business plans and financial forecasts to ensure long term financial sustainability of the organization; able to confidently provide articulate, informed, and strategic direction.
Responsible for forecasting and managing cash flow.
Prepare, analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, clearly communicate quarterly and annual financial statements.
Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
Reports regularly, through the Chief Administrative Officer, to the Board of Directors and the Audit and Finance Committee.
Create a positive work environment and culture of respect for one another; lead by example; champion a positive, can-do culture in the team.
Skills and Qualifications:
·University Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Admin and CPA designation (CPA, CA preferred).
·8+ years’ experience in a senior financial managerial position.
·Strong financial management experience. Ability to navigate through complex financial models to maximize results.
·Strategic leadership skills and a high degree of integrity and emotional intelligence
·Superior attention-to-detail and accuracy.
·Strong time management, problem solving and prioritization in a fast-paced environment
·Excellent presentation skills – ability to interpret complex data in a way that is relevant to the audience.
·Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Excel, Sage/AccPac, and other applications.
·Experience with payroll and working within a non-profit organization is considered an asset.
·Comfortable working within a faith-based environment, respecting the mission and values of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
