The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Athletics & Recreation, we are looking to hire a Team Lead for Student Services & Campus Engagement in the
Athletic and Recreation department.
The Team Lead will play an integral role in the coordination of student centric programming, planning, servicing and delivery as the Athletics & Recreation department strives to create an active, engaging and responsive environment of recreational and competitive pursuits. Activity Team Leads guide, support and advance leadership opportunities for all part time employees including students as they fulfill create, support and manage the recreational needs and competitive aspirations of participants.
This position requires leadership, supervision, innovation, quick thinking, program coverage and communication, all required of a dynamic resource such as SAIT Athletics & Recreation.
The Role
- Supervision, Scheduling, & Mentorship/Coaching of Hourly Employees and Student Participants
- Advance a student centric agenda whereby programs and services are structured to support SAIT student needs
- Manage Part-time employee recruitment and coordination (hiring, training, mentoring, scheduling & performance management)
- Enhance a timely problem-solving culture to resolves issues in compliance with organizational policies, and procedures
- Intentional Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) focused decision making, promotion and approachability
- Supervision of student participants, activities and projects as required including Officials development and collaboration.
- Manage freelancer and/or contractor relations, coordinate co-curricular coordination and provide mentorship and coaching support
- Event, Activity & Team Management
- Manage a menu of sport and activity programming including Intermural, Extramural and Varsity opportunities
- Establish working relationships as a contributing team member of athletics & recreation with SAIT, ACAC/CCAA & other stakeholders
- Project management approach to hosting/welcoming other franchises/institutions to our campus community
- Fitness center customer relations, sport club collaborations and committee contributions as required
- Participate in committee collaborations as aligned with the various member associations affiliated with SAIT
- Governance, Administration & Compliance
- Participate on committees with Campus wide initiatives in addition to Provincial, National and International scale activities
- Balance sport excellence with innovation, learning moments and interventions
- Coordinate budgeting, auditing, expenditure and financial reporting including capital equipment & operational inventory controls
- Manage financial planning, monitoring & management of assigned areas
- Support roster management, tournament hosting, sponsorship deliverables and other revenue related partnerships as required
- Marketing, Communications, Innovation & Technology
- Advance community sport and stakeholder relations as impacted by post-secondary participation opportunities and relationships
- Government relations and corporate communications contributions and delivery
- Coordinate promotions, broadcasting and production. Promote innovation to support collaborative partnerships
- Other administrative support including website, statistics and storytelling as required
- Campus Engagement & Event Coordination Activities/Engagement
- Lead Trojans representation on campus-wide initiatives and engagement tasks
- Event Coordination; Staffing, scheduling, promotion and on-site support etc.
- Provide event support for out of season, regular season & championship events for collegiate teams
- Support athletics & recreation operations on annual events hosted by department
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on Sport, Recreation, Business and/or Event Management
- 3-5 years of direct experience working in a sport, recreation or event management capacity with supervisory responsibilities.
- Lifelong learner and willing to upgrade certifications in SafeSport, Respect in Sport, Standard First Aid & Basic Rescuer CPR
- Experience training and supervising multiple part-time staff including sport officials, instructors, volunteers, and supervisors
- Preferred
- University degree in Sport Studies, Sport Management, Sports Marketing, Recreation Management or a sports related field.
- Experience participating in university sports, coaching at a high level in addition to officiating and/or sport administration.
- Advanced certifications in coaching and/or a sport related field
- Skills Required
- Proactive and innovative with effective communication and strong time management skills
- Ability to improve current processes & challenge the status quo.
- Multitasking skills for managing multiple projects, maintain professionalism in driving the departments strategic initiatives.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as per work demands and requirements
- Ability to collaborate with Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) for prospective fund development opportunities
- Public speaking skills and with the ability to manage social media facing interactions.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities to engage with SAIT students and stakeholders
- Demonstrated understanding of specific sport rules and administration through a continuum of sport experiences
- Demonstrated commitment to and appreciation of diversity, cultural competence and global perspectives
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities, situations and demands
- Experience delivering programming to maximize student learning, cohesion, competition and student social experience as required

Salary range: $63,675.30 – $68,550.53
