POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides leadership to supervisors and frontline staff across two campuses, regarding the activities of patient meal service, diet order processing, department software and interfaces, inventory management, procurement and food distribution. Directs the effective management of Patient Food Services through planning, organizing, controlling and evaluating the food service and diet order processing for Charlton and West 5th campuses, ensuring efficient, high quality and safe patient/client service.
QUALIFICATIONS:
– Undergraduate degree in Nutrition/Dietetics
– Regulated Health Professional, registered with College of Dietitians of Ontario, preferred
– Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) certificate, preferred
– 5 years previous experience in Food Service management or supervisor experience in a healthcare setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Hires, promotes, disciplines and terminates direct reports
• Manages employee relation issues, promoting teamwork where staff can interact productively and efficiently
• Develops, implements and communicates performance measures, conducts regular performance appraisals of direct reports, providing ongoing coaching and feedback
• Ensures a safe working environment for staff
• Coordinates and provides education to direct reports regarding hospital policies, procedures and department quality initiatives
• Manages the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of quality improvement initiatives which align with established organizational standards
• Monitors quality improvement outcomes on a regular basis and develops action plans address identified issues
• Coaches and mentors direct reports to ensure continuous quality improvement initiatives are incorporated into day to day operations
• Communicates with unit leadership and clinical staff regarding meal service, menus, bulk nourishments, and specific patient issues regarding meal service
• Participates and/or leads departmental or organization wide committees
• In consultation with Food Service Supervisors, coordinates in-services for food service helpers
• In consultation with Food Service Supervisors, communicates with other clinical and support services to address daily operational issues
• Communicates/consults with the Public Health Department regarding food/equipment/process safety issues and health inspections
• Develops and monitors operating budget for assigned area for the utilization of resources
• Effectively manages and monitors expenses and payroll for assigned cost centres
• Oversees diet order and inventory management software application and all related processes
• Identifies operating requirements including FTE allocation, capital equipment, supplies, space utilization
• Consults with Director of Clinical Nutrition and Patient Food Services regarding resources (human, equipment, facility) and ongoing operating and capital equipment needs
• Communicates and consults with suppliers and vendors regarding quality issues and pricing
• Contributes to corporate efforts and initiatives to enhance the organization’s mission, values and goals
• Represents the department on internal and external committees, as required
