DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for cast application, adjustment and removal, the repairing of casts, application of walking devices, bi-valving, wedging and windowing of casts.
• Assist in the application, maintenance and adjustment of traction.
• Removal of sutures and pins related to external fixation.
• Instruct interns and clinical clerks in the techniques of cast application.
• Rotate through the Mobility clinics and the inpatient units.
• Remove, change or adjust wound dressings under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
• Responsible for maintenance of orthopedic equipment and supplies and the use of such.
• Fabrication and application of required splints and bandages.
• Provide education and training to new and existing staff in order to enhance the quality of patient care and educational experiences.
• Provide patient education on cast care and treatment protocols.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager, i.e. assist with the patient flow through the clinic and transferring of patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Successful completion of a recognized Orthopedic Technologist course.
• Registered with the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists.
• A minimum of 3 years current experience in an acute care hospital.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Must be able to work independently and prioritize work in a fast pace environment.
• Excellent customer service record with proven success working as part of a team.
• Demonstrated interest in continuous education.
• Demonstrated commitment to the Mission & Values of the Hospital.
• Must have an excellent attendance record.
