Sunrise Waldorf School is a full AWSNA member school and a Group One independent school under the BC Ministry of Education with a mission to educate and inspire students to reach their full potential through a rich and artistic Waldorf curriculum. We offer a comprehensive Waldorf curriculum from Preschool through Grade Eight. Special subjects include French, Handwork, Woodwork, PE, and Strings.
Established in 1980, our 7-acre rural campus is located in the Cowichan Valley, 45 minutes north of Victoria on Vancouver Island. SWS is part of a vibrant island community, abundant with arts, surrounded by organic farms and endless outdoor adventures. Most of the families at SWS have moved to the Cowichan Valley from all over the world to attend SWS.
Our teacher’s salary is based on the level of education and years of experience and ranges from $42,550 to $59,560. Benefits include dental and extended health options, plus tuition remission to begin Waldorf Teacher Training, if required.
Qualifications & Experience
All applicants must be able to receive a BC teaching certificate (requiring either a B.Ed. or a B.A. and Waldorf teacher training) or a Letter of Permission while pursuing certification, and all applicants must have Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
The ideal candidate will have completed Waldorf training and have teaching experience in a Waldorf school, as well as a history of strong classroom management and the ability to maintain professional relationships with parents, faculty and staff. We will also support trained teachers without Waldorf experience to obtain their Waldorf teacher training during school breaks. Our faculty is looking for a colleague who will enthusiastically join their collaborative work with our Principal.
A spiritual dimension in Waldorf education is present in the culture and environment of the school, although no particular religious or spiritual beliefs are prescribed. Parents and teachers of various religious and spiritual perspectives and ethical philosophies are involved in Waldorf education. They do so knowing that Waldorf schools are based on a spiritual view of the human being and of the world.
