Summary
As a key member of the Indigenous Education team, the Indigenous Grad Coach reports to the Manager and School Principal and is responsible for developing and implementing programs and services to support Indigenous students and their families, with a focus on student success and graduation in compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, acts and policies of Superior-Greenstone District School Board. It is preferred that the successful candidate identifies as First Nation, Metis and/or Inuit.
Education/Experience
A College Diploma in Social Work, Indigenous Studies or another specialization relevant to the position, or a combination of experience, education and training.
A minimum of one (1) year of progressive related experience in a unionized and/or non-unionized environment.
A demonstrated understanding of the culture, history and traditions of local First Nation Communities.
Fluency in Ojibwa Language is an asset.
A valid driver’s license is required along with access to a reliable vehicle.
Proficiency in computer skills such as Microsoft applications, e-mail, cloud-based applications.
Responsibilities (This is not an exhaustive list)
Report the day-to day program success and student interaction to the School Principal and take direction on priorities.
Act as a mentor and advocate to students, facilitating access and referrals to academic supports and community resources to provide an integrated support system for student achievement and well-being.
Identify areas of concern and students at risk based on data collected by the Grad Coach.
Implement initiatives to improve academic achievement, graduation rate and credit accumulation as part of the Student Success Team.
Interact and build relationships with Student Well-being check ins.
Develop and implement school intervention and prevention strategies based on data collected by the Grad Coach.
Adhere to safety and behavioral plans for students to mitigate risks.
Communicate with staff and students regularly regarding completion of tasks and achievement of student learning outcomes.
Ensure staff, family support and parental communication and engagement.
Organize, coordinate and facilitate school community cultural activities.
Coordinate community Elders and knowledge keepers to share cultural teachings and participate in community and regional events.
Identify and research potential programs such as pathway planning.
Coordinate and ensure a robust transition occurs for students.
Promote and assist with employment services and skills (i.e. resume writing, cover letter, references, skills development and training, applications, employment opportunity, referrals to Employment Services and employers, volunteer opportunities).
Participate in meetings and professional development as a member of the Board’s Resource Team.
Contribute and present relevant information to the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee.
Assist in running the Indigenous Youth Coun
Report on student success to the Board and Ministry of Education.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Effort
Demand on energy as a result of developing important and effective working relationships with students and families.
May be required to drive to various sites which may require extended periods of time sitting in a vehicle.
Work does not require extended physical effort.
Working Conditions
Most working hours are in a normal indoor working environment.
Occasionally exposed to difficult or demanding clientele.
Required to respond to emergencies, regularly attend meetings and make presentations outside normal business hours.
Occasionally required to travel to alternative Board locations.
