POSITION: Laundry Aide
DEPARTMENT: Environmental Services
REPORTS TO: Facility Supports Manager
Under the direction and supervision of the Facility Supports Manager, performs related duties associated with the collection, processing, distribution and inventory of linens and personal clothing. Consistent with the mission and philosophy of The Birches contributes to the efficient operation of the Environmental Services Department within an interdisciplinary resident-focused team.
Qualifications
Grade 12 High School graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in dealing with the public.
Knowledge of Laundry operations an asset.
Experience in a Long Term Care setting, an asset.
Good verbal and written communication skills and personal initiative.
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Physically capable of performing all assigned duties within a flexible work schedule required for a 7 day a week operation.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds, be able to stand for long periods of time.
Demonstrated regular attendance standards.
Ability to meet and maintain health standards as per Long Term Care Legislation.
Computer literacy an asset
Responsibilities
Provide facility clothing and linen support services by ensuring the collection, distribution, processing and inventory of linens and personal clothing:
Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the Operational policies of The Birches.
Ensures quality clothing support services through the maintenance of efficient workflow patterns and in direction and supervision, showing a willingness to participate in departmental Continuous Quality Improvement
Maintains a clean and tidy work area and equipment, following cleaning schedules and routines for the department and ensuring the proper care and economical use of resources.
Weighs and sorts linens for processing.
Loads and unloads washers and dryers.
Operates ironers, folders and presses as required.
Folds and sorts personal clothing onto proper racks for delivery.
Folds, loads and records linens and incontinent products onto institutional racks for delivery.
Delivers personal and institutional linens to the units as assigned.
Audits linens for required labels and repairs.
Discards linens and maintains records.
Creates a facility wide environment that protects the confidentiality of residents, staff and activities of The Birches
Participates in continuing education, relevant to Job Description and Long Term Care, to ensure skills and abilities are maintained and enhanced.
Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety.
Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
General:
Maintain knowledge of current Fire and Emergency plan and procedures
Maintain knowledge of The Birches policies and procedures
Interacts with staff, residents, families and the public in a polite, respectful, professional manner.
May be expected to participate on The Birches committees, or specific meetings as required.
Other duties may be assigned from time-to-time.

Participates, when required in initiatives that minimize risk and promote safety
Ensures that risks are minimized and proactively addressed for the interest of The Birches.
