The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) is a national union representing some 70,000 professionals and scientists in federal, provincial, and territorial public sectors across Canada, requires one (1) Employment Relations Officer (ERO) for a 12-month term to work with its National Capital Regional Office in Ottawa.
PIPSC/IPFPC is committed to building an inclusive workplace where diversity of thought – and of people – are recognized, valued, and considered essential to achieving our goals and objectives.
We are making concerted efforts to foster a workforce that is representative of our diverse membership.
The Position:
Employment Relations Officers are at the core of the services our Institute provides to its members. They are strong advocates for our members in their dealings with employers. EROs are called upon to advise and represent members in a variety of formal and informal labour relations processes including in grievances and other complaint resolution processes, in mediation, at arbitration hearings and before various tribunals such as in the context of staffing, occupational health and safety, human rights and worker’s compensation appeals.
EROs negotiate agreements and settlements on a full range of labour relations matters. They research, analyse and interpret jurisprudence, legislation, regulations, employer policies, benefits provisions and collective agreements.
EROs collaborate with their colleagues and other specialists and may be required to provide advice to the organization and to develop Institute positions on Institute-wide or group-wide issues, including in support of the collective bargaining process. They participate in the coaching, training and development of Institute Stewards. EROs may also participate in and represent the Institute on public service wide labour management committees, national working groups and other national, regional and local committees.
In short, our Employment Relations Officers perform meaningful and challenging jobs in support of our individual public sector employee members and groups as well as their collective interests.
