Taggart Investments
Part of the Taggart Group of Companies, Taggart Investments focuses on acquiring, developing, and managing residential land for the purposes of supporting new home construction. Taggart Investments manages a number of projects, each at varying stages of the development process. The projects are primarily located in Ottawa and Kingston.
Work Description
In this hands-on role supporting treasury services within the Taggart Group, the Senior Accounting Clerk assists the Director of Treasury and Acquisitions by performing various accounting tasks related to the Group’s development portfolio on a timely and accurate basis in accordance with company policies and internal controls. The Senior Accounting Clerk plays a key role in the operations of the Group by ensuring essential oversight of corporate cash flows and management of a number of reporting entities.
Major Responsibilities:
Senior Accounting Clerk
Process standard monthly journal entries
Maintain daily accounting functions up to the point of trial balance
Review budget to actual reports and provide variance analyses for review
Manage and monitor daily cash flows between the Group treasury and development entities
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, and billings to related companies for centralized legal and land development management services.
Maintain and reconcile accounts receivable customer files.
Carry out billing, collection and reporting activities according to specific deadlines.
Stamp, match, code, verify and post various invoices, and maintain accurate records in accordance with company practices and policies
Prepare credit card reconciliations
Liaise with suppliers regarding outstanding invoices and payments, identify and report issues to Director, and maintain accurate records to reflect status of payments
Maintain and reconcile various general ledger accounts, for example; bank, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accruals, payroll, etc.
Prepare monthly working papers for sections of the month-end file, ensuring sub-ledgers are in balance
Assist with the preparation of year end files
With respect to the above duties, ensure established process and policy is adhered to, reporting any discrepancies to the Director of Treasury and Acquisitions
Other duties as required
Statement of Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant and progressive work experience
Post-Secondary Education in Accounting or Finance is required
Strong ability to critically analyze and problem solve
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks priorities at a time
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Highly proficient use of various software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe
Experience using an ERP system or other complex accounting system is considered an asset
Experience in a multi-company environment would be an asset
Physical/Sensory Effort/Work Environment
Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines
Sitting or standing for long periods of time at workstation
Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
Repetitive work.
Overtime may be required
