Job Summary
The Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for the design, development, curation and facilitation of unparalleled learning experiences for UBC’s workplace internal learning offerings. In this role, the position works through the full cycle of learning and development programs from analysis to implementation, facilitation and evaluation. The position uses both formal and informal knowledge of adult learning principles to support learners and their growth through sustained learning opportunities. A strong blend of content curation and facilitation is required in this role.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Manager, Workplace Learning. Independently manages assigned projects and may oversees the work of consultants, subject matter experts, and staff. Work closely with the other members of the Human Resources team, faculty and staff.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Exercises judgment and initiative in facilitating learner needs. Failure to effectively meet learner needs may negatively impact on relations with the many stakeholders that Human Resources regularly interacts with, including negatively impacting the University’s public image and reputation.
Supervision Received
Reports to the Manager, Workplace Learning Works independently and as part of a team. Exercising independent judgement and initiative in addressing learning design needs. Keeps the Manager informed of actions through reports and discussions. Projects may be independently managed and are usually subject to periodic review.
Supervision Given
May oversees consultants, professionals, and staff by establishing work objectives, and reviewing work and performance as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education. Minimum of six years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Degree in Education or a related field with emphasis on business administration, organizational development and human resources management. Minimum of six years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated skill and knowledge of current training and organizational development practices. Effective oral and written presentation and communication skills. Effective problem-solving and conflict management skills to advance a healthy working environment. Demonstrated experience in managing projects, meeting deadlines and resolving unexpected and/or ambiguous situations or issues. Proven intercultural competencies. Ability to communicate and interact with understanding and respect across diverse cultures. Ability to negotiate and influence within a collaborative framework. Demonstrated commitment to life long learning, shared leadership and continuous improvement. Demonstrated ability to anticipate future trends/consequences and create innovative strategies and flexible plans. Demonstrated initiative to analyze and resolve problems quickly, efficiently, and collaboratively. Ability to work in a team-based environment and to build, manage and maintain high-quality relationships.
