Job Summary
The School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is a partnership between the Faculties of Applied Science and Medicine, established in 2017. Currently the School has 36 core and joint faculty located on campus and at healthcare research institutes, 400+ undergraduate and undergraduate students, 20+ administrative staff and several research core service facilities. The School is a nucleus for education and training, research, and innovation in biomedical engineering, creating new knowledge, new academic and training programs, and fostering translation and innovation, aspiring to be a global leader in the field. Its vision is to transform health care outcomes through unconstrained exploration of the best possible integrative solutions across engineering, medicine, and biology.
The Special Projects Coordinator will provide administrative and coordination support for the School of Biomedical Engineering Student Services. Main duties will include providing general day-to-day administrative support to the Senior Manager, Academic and Special Programs, Capstone Instructors, the Director of the Undergraduate Program and the Director of the Gradate Program. The incumbent will coordinate the creation and development of Student Services’ initiatives and projects and provide administrative support with the growth of the MEng program. This position also provides shadow coverage for other assistant roles within School of Biomedical Engineering Student Services. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Academic and Special Programs, the Coordinator will establish a work plan and revise it as needed to address current priorities for Student Services and SBME. As such, projects will change according to operational need.
During accreditation periods for the undergraduate program, the Special Projects Coordinator will provide administrative support as required.
Organizational Status
This position is supervised by the Senior Manager, Academic and Special Programs. The Special Projects Coordinator will also receive instructions and work assignments from Assistant Manager, Student Services, faculty members responsible for accreditation process, Director of Undergraduate Program and Director of Graduate Program. The incumbent will work closely with other faculty and staff in the School, and other stakeholders at UBC.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Special Projects Coordinator must exercise considerable judgment and must demonstrate tact and discretion. Failure to use good judgement, organize work, or provide accurate information regarding the School’s academic programs, key activities, and related communications would have a serious direct or indirect impact on overall operations, development, financial stability, and extending to exposure to legal action for the School. Inappropriate management of confidential documents and information could have an adverse effect on faculty, staff or students, or on UBC or affiliated hospitals.
Supervision Received
This is a responsible position where a high degree of accuracy, maturity, and initiative is expected. Works independently under limited administrative direction, receiving specific instruction on new or unfamiliar tasks. Work is performed in accordance with broadly established procedures and practices requiring initiative to plan and complete recurring assignments independently, and judgment to determine which of many methods are applicable in any given situation. Work is not normally checked. Exercises judgment and initiative in dealing with non-routine matters. Is responsible for a wide variety of tasks for multiple projects and supervisors, requiring ongoing prioritization.

Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation, plus two year post-secondary diploma, plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
