Position Description
University of Calgary Continuing Education (ContEd) is currently recruiting for an instructor (contract (term) position) to teach online courses on e-learning principles and teaching online in the 2022-2023 academic year.
In support of the University of Calgary’s core principles and financial objectives, Continuing Education is an academic unit with a mandate to respond to the needs of the community through the design, development and delivery of high-quality lifelong learning opportunities.
Each year, ContEd serves over 20,000 adult learners and offers more than one thousand courses taught by hundreds of instructors-all experts in their fields. It is expected to fund, through revenue generation, the majority of its operational costs while contributing financially to the university.
The success of University of Calgary Continuing Education in meeting its business target in a competitive environment is dependent upon effectively serving students and by providing high-quality instruction and programs.

These instructional positions are non-credit teaching appointments and, as such, are contract positions without benefits (other than those required by Employment Standards).

ADL 115-006 Virtual Classroom Strategies (Winter 2023; Online)

Online Synchronous Delivery
Course Description:
Learn how to design and facilitate live online learning events such as online classes and virtual meetings. Examine synchronous learning tools and their use in creating interactive and collaborative experiences for learners in a virtual classroom. Develop skills and strategies that will help you improve your success and confidence as a facilitator of live online events.
This practical course will be delivered fully online in weekly synchronous (live) sessions via Zoom with supporting resources in the asynchronous environment (Desire2Learn). As the final course project, you will create and deliver a synchronous event utilizing the tools and techniques mastered in the course.
Scope of Responsibilities (high level)
1. Create effective lessons plans, develop content, learning activities, presentations, assignments, evaluations, examinations (where applicable)
2. Utilize Desire2Learn (D2L) for all course materials and student communication
3. Utilize Zoom to facilitate any synchronous live sessions with activities (where applicable)
Qualifications
1. Master’s degree in Education or a related field is required.
2. Previous teaching experience is essential; post-secondary teaching experience is preferred.
3. Extensive experience in facilitating live online learning (courses, webinars, meetings, etc.) is essential.
4. Previous experience utilizing e-learning tools (LMS, video conferencing tools, etc.) such as Desire2Learn, Blackboard, Moodle, Zoom, or similar is required.
