Position Overview
The Department of Geoscience in the Faculty of Science invites applications for a Research Geophysicist. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), this position works with the CREWES project in the specialized area of seismic processing and inversionesearch. The focus will be on programming, data analysis and inversion of both field and laboratory seismic data, and working with a diverse team of faculty, staff, postdoctoral researcher, and graduate student science researchers.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Carrying out original seismic research and research data analysis, devising, testing, and implementing new algorithms.
- Contributing to and participating in communication with CREWES sponsors, in particular at our Annual Meeting, which will occur in November or December each year.
- Supporting graduate student and postdoctoral fellow research projects and projects carried out in collaboration with industrial sponsors and other collaborators.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- MSc degree in physical sciences, industry experience.
- At least 10 years of experience in an academic research setting carrying out applied seismic research.
- Demonstrated track record of processing physical modelling laboratory seismic data, development and implementation of specialized seismic processing techniques, in particular radial trace transforms, time lapse signal extraction, and interferometric methods.
