What will you do?
This support role provides assistance to the Customs & Transportation team. In this capacity, the Customs Coordinator would help in the maintenance of the Customs programs and initiatives for Fisher Canada to ensure timely, compliant release and accounting with CBSA. Additionally, facilitates the day to day coordination required for the flawless flow of cross border shipments.
Responsibilities:
Supports customs compliance for Fisher Scientific’s CSA (Customs Self-Assessment) program, by ensuring Company responsibilities are met with CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) including; but not limited to; B3 accounting submissions, daily transmission and reviews to address any B3 error corrections, Importer of Record review and customs release assistance.
Resident guide in tariff classification of item database and applicable reviews CFIA, NRCAN, and other possible PGA’s to ensure customs compliance.
Collaborate closely with Broker to ensure information is updated in Customs Broker database. Contact supplier to assist in figuring out HS Codes, country of origin, and CFIA specified information to correctly classify and ensure broker profile has appropriate info for “AIRS” website.
Complete documentation for vendor returns (exports) for “re-deployment” requests, large volume returns from Supply Chain, and warranty repairs.
Post audit process reviews and providing support in relation to any Customs Compliance topic; and supporting Customs team by facilitating information as a result of internal/Customs audit requests.
Provide support for Operations, Sales, Finance and Purchasing relative to customs inquiries.
Analyze the impact of duty.
Provide insight into CUSMA opportunities. Solicit, Review, and implement CUSMA preferential tariff treatments when all compliance reviews are completed.
Recognize and complete amend/refund process within the CSA mainframe. (X type process)
Facilitate and troubleshoot any customs clearance delays and coordinate with broker/carrier to minimize related transit delays.
Maintain Customs Compliance Manual for RSD Canada and maintain alliances with U.S. Compliance Manual.
Assist in SOP creation and updates.
Assist in the day-to-day execution of transportation related activities.
Perform other various duties as assigned.
How will you get there?
Requirements
Education:
Post Secondary College or University degree in Customs Administration and/or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation.
Experience:
1-2 years of work experience in a Customs related role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Able to prioritize multiple tasks/projects at the same time
Diligent with proven data mining skills and the desire to get involved at the data warehouse level.
Fundamental understanding of the CSA, HS classification expertise, Customs Regulations, and Free Trade Agreements (CUSMA/USMCA) .
Solid understanding of carrier operations and across all modes of transportation including LTL, TL, intermodal, and parcel.
Strong interpersonal skills; an ability to identify and overcome obstacles customs/carriers issues, vendor compliance and management tight deadlines.
Working Customs experience is required.
Experienced in Microsoft Office.
Strong knowledge of Customs Laws & Regulations.
Ability to recognize Customs Compliance risks and address.
Experienced in Excel, Access, and Word.
