As the Manager, Benefits – Canada, you will be responsible for the strategy, administration and financial management for all benefits in Canada. You will ensure our programs support TR’s objectives and align with Reward architecture. You will lead a team of two direct reports and work closely with members of the Reward and People team, along with business leaders and employees, to design, optimize and implement programs which meet our mission to offer inclusive benefits and best-in-class wellbeing support to attract and retain world-class talent.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Benefits, Manager, you will:
Strategic Operations
- Lead team on designing, implementing and managing competitive, innovative and cost-efficient programs
- Assess and maintain collaborative, beneficial and accountable vendor relationships. At times, overseeing periodic RFPs / vendor selection process as needed
- Partner with Sourcing to lead contract negotiations for vendor renewals, ensuring best terms and meaningful Service Level Agreements
- Support Guild union benefits strategy, benefits administration and negotiations
- Drive M&A due diligence and support HR M&A team with analysis, contracting and implementation
- Communicate effectively and develop relationships with business partners, senior leadership, and other corporate functions
Financial Management
- Develop benefit program recommendations to effectively manage spend
- Partner with Sourcing to identify cost savings/avoidance opportunities
- With the help of finance, set annual benefit budget
- Manage invoice approvals within applicable thresholds
Communications & Engagement
- Oversee communication strategies and materials for improved awareness and engagement
- Create an exceptional employee experience by providing innovative solutions, making it easy for employees to navigate their benefits and wellbeing programs
Compliance & Governance
- Oversee compliance & governance of benefit plans, ensuring alignment with internal controls & audits
- Manage government required filings
- Lead Canada Pension Management Committee
- Present and seek approval from appropriate retirement committees for program changes
Analytics, Data Management & Plan Research/Design
- Develop data-driven proposals and measure benefits efficiency through financial expenditures, competitive benchmarking, claims data, plan participation, market trends and demographic changes
- Continually benchmark programs to ensure competitiveness including providing regular reporting and updates on market trends, thought leadership and competitive data
- Stay informed of applicable benefits legislation, analyze, and interpret new statutory requirements governing benefits plans and recommend an appropriate course of action
- Contribute to other global benefit and wellbeing initiatives, as needed
About You:
You’re a fit for the role of Manager, Benefits if you have:
- Experience with a wide variety of benefit programs including retirement (Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution), health & welfare plans, ancillary benefits, wellbeing & HR policies
- 5+ years’ experience in a broad, benefits-focused role, with experience leading teams
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Strong financial acumen
- Strong quantitative skills, ability to use data analysis to proactively derive insights and support fact-based decision making
- Ability to build and verbally deliver business cases presentations and papers
- Ability to partner and influence across HR and with business leaders, build relationships, collaborate, and influence outcomes
- Understand and embrace technology with experience delivering benefit programs and communications using digital platforms and capabilities
- Effective communication skills at all levels, and customer service driven
- Ability to apply rigorous statistical metrics and execute processes to analyze and measure the effectiveness of benefit programs and initiatives
- Experience working in a large, global organization is preferred
