The Role
As a Staff Software Developer, Test at Thrive you will help grow our software development practices and test automation efforts across the entire Thrive ecosystem. You’ll work in a key position where your efforts will have a noticeable impact on both the company and product. In addition to the requirements outlined below, successful candidates will share a passion for high-quality software, strong engineering principles, and methodical problem-solving skills while helping other engineers achieve their fullest potential.
This is a hands-on position for someone with deep software craftsmanship experience across the full stack and is especially passionate about testing and how to best deliver a quality SaaS product that delights our customers. You thrive in a fast-paced team that takes pride in building great software and making customers happy.
Responsibilities
– Improve and expand our software development practices and help develop our test strategy
– Expand our existing test automation framework and test coverage
– Coach other Software Engineers in effective and thoughtful code craftsmanship and test practices
– Identify and design potential new test frameworks, demonstrate their value, and implement in collaboration with other Software Engineers
– Develop new tests and tools for the frontend, backend APIs, services and low-level infrastructure-as-code systems like our CI/CD pipeline and our provisioning and setup tools such as Terraform
– Help setup and maintain Thrive test environments
– Continuously improve pipeline performance and ensure failures are triaged promptly
– Develop a strong working knowledge of the entire Thrive application stack including tests at all levels (Unit, Integration, and End-to-end)
– Manage and refine Thrive tests at all levels to ensure optimal coverage and effective deduplication
– Collaborate with a Product Owner and with the wider product and development team to understand how new features should be tested and to contribute to automated tests for these new features
– Collaborate with engineers to define and implement mechanisms to inject testing earlier into the software development process
– Identify, share, and nurture the adoption of best practices in code health, testing, testability, and maintainability in collaboration with the wider Engineering department (you should champion clean code and the concept of the test pyramid)
– Analyze complex software systems and collaborate with others to improve overall design, testability, and quality
– Strive for the fastest feedback possible
– Configure automated tests to execute reliably and efficiently in CI/CD environments
– Track and communicate test results in a timely, effective, and automated manner
– Assist Management with recruitment and planning support as needed
Qualifications
– 8+ years of relevant work experience, including software development and test automation across the full stack
– You have strong technical leadership abilities and experience within an Agile environment
– You have a several years of professional experience developing in React and Ruby or working on a Ruby on Rails application
– You bring significant experience using Git and its command line
– You’re comfortable with testing technologies and frameworks such as Cypress, TestNG, JUnit and Selenium
– You have a working knowledge of Docker
– You are interested in growing your knowledge and skills in Test Environment Provisioning and Configuring using technologies like Terraform and AWS
– You have experience with Continuous Integration systems like GitHub Actions and CircleCI
– You understand data model, object/entity relationship, and relational databases
– You have extensive knowledge of modern best practices for software development including IDE, source control, build processes, release management and deployment
– You know how to help teams thrive using your collective experience across Agile, DevOps and Lean practices and know when to use them
– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent

Compensation Package
– Base salary up to $180,000
– Equity
