TNO is seeking a Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) Staff member to join our team in in a full-time contract role to support the children of participants in “The Road to Employment” (RTE) program at TNO. This program is designed for newcomers; from Thorncliffe, Flemingdon Park, and surrounding neighborhoods to identify and achieve their career and employment goals. The program offers robust verbal and non-verbal workplace communication training.
The ideal candidate for this position should hold a two-year diploma in child development studies or a related field. They should have 1 to 2 years of experience working with children ranging from 19 months to school-aged. Demonstrating effective communication skills in English and showing sensitivity towards the needs of children and parents who are new to Canada are essential qualities. Collaboration is a key aspect of this role, as active participation within a team of childcare professionals is required. Proficiency in using electronic toys and electrical appliances is anticipated, and fluency in a second language, both spoken and written, would provide an added advantage. Previous engagement with low-income, multi-racial, and multi-lingual newcomer communities is considered a valuable asset.
This position will play a vital role in the daily operations of the Road to Employment Program, offered by TNO, while ensuring the well-being of both the children and their environment. A key responsibility of this role is to prioritize the health and safety of each child, taking into consideration their unique cultural background and values. The role encompasses various tasks, including maintaining a secure environment for the children, preparing and upkeeping program areas, accurately recording attendance, conducting safety drills, ensuring the cleanliness of toys and furnishings, and maintaining the overall hygiene of CNC spaces. A responsive approach to diverse cultural backgrounds, values, and individual experiences is a cornerstone of this role.
Vaccination Requirement – You must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to any valid medical or religious exemption from vaccination as provided by the Ontario Human Rights Code.
Screening – As a condition of employment, the successful applicant must complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Job Type: Full-time contract position until March 31, 2024
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Some evenings and weekends may be required
Work Location: In person (Toronto, ON M4H 1R1)
