Primary Purpose

The Academic Director, School of Technology provides leadership to Technology Programs offered by TSoM and Niagara College – Toronto: Computer Programing, and other programs that belong to the school of Technology. Program Coordinators in the program report to the Program Manager (Senior Program Manager) where the Academic Director provides the overall supervision of managing the school. This is the senior academic position in the institution and requires a person with experience in educational leadership, who can build an academic team in a dynamic institution and lead the team to achieve academic excellence.

Specific Responsibilities

Academic Leadership:

• Provide visionary academic leadership in a collegial managerial environment.
• Recognize that the success of the programs in the school is based on the success of students as learners, faculty as teachers, and others in their support roles and addresses hindrances to better performance.
• Support Program Managers (and senior program managers)/Program Coordinators in providing leadership in program coordinator, faculty, and other supporting units in the program for successful program delivery and faculty management.
• Work with the Associate Dean, other Academic Directors, Centre of Academic Excellence, and other administrators to facilitate effective planning, operation, and evaluation of activities.
• Collaborate with the Learning and Development team and the Librarian on initiatives that will enhance faculty teaching techniques, tools and strategies.
• Collaborate with IT and Facility Department in ensuring the safe use of computer labs on campus, preparedness of software installation in student desktops, and the lab policy is followed by all stakeholders.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

• Collaborate with the QA and Compliance team to ensure the programs are reviewed in accordance with the quality assurance procedures of the institution and/or other appropriate quality assurance bodies.
• Support Program Managers (and senior program managers) in producing the program audit review and implement action plans/items identified in internal program audits or partner audits.
• Oversee the assessment process for faculty, including course allocation, analyzing Faculty Performance Review, Course Feedback Survey, and other relevant tasks in improving program quality.
• Ensure the required software is installed and updated in a timely manner to match with the course outlines.

Management:

• Work with the Program Managers (senior program managers)/Program Coordinators and other administrators to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the academic operations in the school.
• Keep up-to-date and familiar with the program QA processes.
• Participate in meetings, orientations, graduation exercises, and other functions as directed.
• Provide supervision on school specific events, such as Professional Development session, Faculty Onboardings, student related events etc.
• Ensure all educational activities are conducted legally and ethically.
• Participate in interviewing and hiring for school specific positions.
• Ensure positive collaborations with other departments in ensuring smooth lab functions.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

• A master’s degree is required.
• Additional certifications in computer science, programing, coding and other related field.
• Minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in an administrative role in a college or university. Faculty management and academic team building experience as assets.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of best practices and research in curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
• Demonstrated experience in leading a team of educators.
• Appropriate academic credentials for teachable subjects are essential.
• Dynamic individual with knowledge of creating positive learning experience with young adult learners.
• Energy and drive, superior communication abilities, and excellent interpersonal skills are required.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching, supervising student work, and providing support and feedback is highly desirable.
• Ability to communicate complex information to a range of diverse students, faculty and staff both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated a commitment to diversity and equity is desirable to interact effectively with diverse students and colleagues.
• Proven experience in an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet prescribed deadlines.
• Commit to working on campus at least two days on campus a week.
