General Accountability
Reporting to the Manager – Application & Solution Architecture, the incumbent defines best practices in the critical evaluation and selection or development of the application components and hardware requirements, leads and contributes to transform business initiatives into technical requirements, architect the solutions, oversee the design and development effort to ensure the alignment with the enterprise application architecture and technology roadmaps. The incumbent coordinates closely with business, data, and technology architects while leveraging subject matter experts from any needed technical and business areas. The incumbent also works closely with the solution delivery team and other ITS and business staff to ensure successful implementation of projects or business solutions.
Key Job Functions
Develop the application architecture foundation and ensures that it is leveraged:
- governs applications-related quality, performance, availability, interoperability, scalability and integrity in enterprise architecture environments;
- develops and maintains the application architecture to support seamless implementation & integration of new and existing application;
- conducts analysis to identify development trends in application architecture and apply them in application development;
Ensure viable business services offerings for stakeholders to support key enterprise initiatives:
- architects application solutions to offer viable option(s) for multiple business domains, translates business requirements into technical solutions;
- maximizes business value by leveraging existing applications and introduces new application architecture for the implementation of IT solutions;
- collaborates with the development and technical team to implement software solutions that meet the architectural goals and standards of an organization;
Provide governance and ensure application framework conforms to fundamental application standards:
- establishes and maintains application development framework and application code development standards;
- guides and oversees technical aspects of development and integration including technical design and development quality of the implementation;
- ensure the application conforms to architectural design and application standards and meets the business requirements;
Provide technical support/leadership to ensure high level of business performance:
- provides hands on technical leadership in support of enterprise solutions such as Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), SAP, VISION and other enterprise system implementation;
- coordinates analysis and implementation activities with project teams, EA team members, business constituents and IT staff;
- provides technical leadership in support of complex Asset Management implementations in an enterprise application environment;

- Provides guidelines on the use and maintenance of an architectural system to ensure sustained efficiency and performance;
- Defines and implements application architecture for diverse business processes, projects, and function;
- Develops software solutions and strategy to meet the architectural goals and needs of business;
- Carries out assessments to identify operational limitations and gaps in functional coverage;
- Provides subject matter expertise regarding key decisions related to application development, IT and business functional areas;
- Guides and oversees technical aspects of solution development and integration including technical design and quality of the implementation;
- Ensures proper documentation of architectural design and develops processes in order to deliver high-quality application to meet or exceed business needs;
- Lead COTS software application proposal and request for proposal (RFP)/Request for Information (RFI) response development;
- Promotes the EA process, its outcome and ongoing results, and leads the communication, marketing or educational activities needed to ensure success and use;
- Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer.

Education and Experience
- A University Degree, or College Diploma in a related discipline, OR a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Multiple years hands-on design and implementation experience in at least two IT disciplines (ie. application development, network design, middleware design, servers and storage, data modelling & database management or operations management)
- Experience in the implementation of large scale & complex enterprise application solutions such as SAP, MAXIMO, IFS or other ERP solutions.
- Experience in senior application development and/or architectural position as well as working with diverse set of business & IT stakeholders.
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of corporate services, operations and financial models with working experience in business process re-engineering, information and technology principles and policies.
- Strong knowledge in application development framework and methodologies.
- Knowledge of problem analysis, structured analysis and design, and programming techniques.
- Experience in SOA and object-oriented analysis, design & development in multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture with experience in business, application, technology and data architecture domains.
- Autonomous and self motivated with experience defining and executing a large-scale business and IT strategy.
- Project level experience in the full lifecycle of application implementation and configuration and effective understanding of trade-off analysis.
- Must have the ability to understand the long-term (“big picture”) and short-term perspectives of situations, translate business needs into technology architecture requirements, define multiple solution options to business problems and quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills and strong planning, organization, analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills.
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
