We are currently seeking an HR Assistant to join our team. The key responsibility of this role is making sure people get paid accurately and on-time and that there is an accurate accounting of this process – you will administer the bi-weekly payroll process and provide general HR support in a variety of areas including, recruiting, hiring process and employee engagement initiatives. While this is an entry level position, there is opportunity for professional growth and advancement.
You will work with me, the Director of Human Resources as part of a two-person team. I am based in Montreal, and we have an office in Vancouver, but there is the possibility of remote work from anywhere in Canada.
A new CEO has joined our Association recently, and our Region will expand it’s work across Canada, this is an exciting time for HI Canada, and you will have the opportunity to administer the fundamentals: payroll, benefits, and reporting, but also contribute to the growth and reach of our HR services.

37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday

What you will be doing
Administering full cycle bi-weekly payroll for the region
Termination management including Record of Employment
Payroll system: maintain updated WCB and benefits rates and of time banks: sickness, vacation
Assist with the management of work permit applications
Maintaining employee files and data such as sick days, vacation days, banked overtime hours worked, work permits and producing payroll reports.
Year-end auditors’ requests, monthly and year end reconciliation and production of reports such as: T4
Enrolling employees in our benefits and RRSP
New hire orientation and generating employee letters.
Administering the Employee Recognition and Length of Service programs.
Administer the Association’s Joint Health and Safety Program.
Assisting with Recruitment – we have recently implemented Workforce now Recruitment Module – assist management teams to optimize their recruitment efforts.
Once you’ve mastered the administration basics, the two of us will collaborate on HR projects and initiatives to recruit, retain, and support employees.
What we are looking for
Experience and/or education in the field of HR
Attention to detail and accuracy – Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills. Transposing numbers, entering data Accuracy is essential
Experience with ADP/Workforce or a payroll processing system a definite asset
Resilient and flexible. You are a quick learner and a collaborative colleague who enjoys being part of a team and can work independently
Sound knowledge and application of administrative and HR best practices and procedures
Strong experience with MS Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding payroll, benefits, and employee issues
Strong ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
Experience in the tourism, service, or hospitality industry an asset
Bilingualism (English and French) is a definite asset
