Exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge Construction Management, planning and implementation in collaboration with TNG and the six Tŝilhqot’in communities.
Tsilhqot’in National Government (TNG) is currently hiring a full-time Construction General Manager to join our team in Williams Lake, BC. The successful candidate will be a key member of the team, working with the Senior Advisor for Housing & Infrastructure in developing and implementing the ground breaking Tŝilhqot’in Nation Federal Housing Investment and the long term Tŝilhqot’in Nation Housing Strategy.
The Tsilhqot’in Nation is a world leader in advancing Indigenous rights and title, as demonstrated by the landmark Aboriginal Title Declaration from the Supreme Court of Canada in 2014. The Nation is currently implementing a groundbreaking tripartite framework agreement (Gwets’en Nilt’i Pathway Agreement) with the goal of transforming over the next 5 years the fundamental relationships between the Tsilhqot’in Nation and the Federal and Provincial Crown governments.
The Construction General Manager will require a combination of communications and technical education and experience in Housing & Infrastructure combined with cultural awareness and sensitivity. This is not an entry level position and reports to the Senior Advisor for Housing & Infrastructure.
Main Responsibilities (summary):
Lead and actively participate in the development of a Tŝilhqot’in Construction Management company including but not limited to:
Working with internal and external stakeholders
Identifying and utilizing existing resources of the Tsilhqot’in communities and Nation
Identifying merging opportunities for Tsilhqot’in communities, members and the Nation
Developing a construction management company and leading the operations including hiring of the required/qualified staff
Developing relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, professionals and sub-trades
Developing a Tŝilhqot’in Housing & Infrastructure procurement process
Leading communication exercises and community engagement to consult with and update community members both on and off reserve
Develop and manage/implement strategic plans, work plans, budgets and financial reports
Assist with engaging and strengthening relationships with our partners to bring about the changes required to achieve Tsilhqot’in goals and objectives
Other business responsibilities administered by the Senior Advisor for Housing & Infrastructure.
Qualifications and Professional Competencies:
Post secondary degree related to finance or business administration supplemented by appropriate training and experience in organizational leadership in addition to 5 years related experience in construction project management or other related equivalent area of study, or the right combination of experience and education
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Superior technical review skills and experience a strong asset
Excellent communication skills including verbal, superior writing and presentation skills are essential
Demonstrated project and personnel experience
Strong initiative, excellent professional judgement and commitment to success
High level of professionalism and demonstrated ability to handle confidential information accordingly is crucial
Excellent research and analysis, reporting and problem-solving skills
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, accounting, and project management software
Valid Driver’s License, ability and willingness to travel to remote communities and large cities when required
