Job Summary
A Mechanic Advisor is responsible for acting as the first point of contact for the Company’s vehicle drivers when vehicle servicing or repairs are needed. The incumbent is the liaison for vendors performing work on CN’s vehicles. Working in a call center environment, the position provides assistance and guidance to CN drivers and vendors.
Major Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of repairs and preventive maintenance performed on CN vehicles by approved commercial vendors
Act as a resource person for user departments and commercial vendors
Issue and update expenditure authorization numbers, according to the department’s guidelines, for repairs performed by a commercial vendor
Verify and code invoices to ensure charged costs correspond to the work authorized
Make sure that preventive maintenance, government inspections, and recalls are performed according to schedule
Ensure compliance with applicable warranties and servicing agreements
Perform other related duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Must be able to work in an office environment and a call centre
Must be available to work 5 days a week for 8 hours daily with 2 days off
Located at the head quarter office in Montreal
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience in the automotive and/or commercial vehicle repair trade
Experience in general automotive and/or commercial vehicle repairs of gas and diesel vehicles, as well as hirail equipment and hydraulic mounted equipment
Experience as a Foreman or Mechanic*
Valid Provincial Mechanic Journeyman certificate
Mechanic certification in Truck and Coach, Commercial Transport or Heavy Duty*
Must be able to pass the Company’s “A” Mechanic’s test
Must be able to pass CN’s medical exam
Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and recommend repairs
Must demonstrate strong telephone communication and interpersonal skills, which is determined through a structured interview by Fleet Management
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel) and other mainframe computer systems
Must be able to type 20 words per minute
Demonstrate a willingness to improve telephone, typing, and computer skills
Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)
Training
The role is required to attend internal training to learn how CN’s Systems work and the Company’s procedures.
This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement.
