As an integral member of the Corporate Support Finance team, the Financial Analyst III performs a wide range of professional accounting activities requiring application of advanced professional and competent knowledge of accounting concepts, principles and practices. This individual works independently under broad direction and within established accounting systems and is able to handle specialized, relatively large assignments and resolve complex financial and/or technical problems that may be unique or non-recurring or for which there are few clear precedents.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide sound and timely information to the management team to facilitate optimal decision making
Prepare monthly/quarterly financial packages and dashboards for management to facilitate the decision making and financial reporting process.
Prepares monthly financial month-end journal entries and reconciliations relevant to the assigned portfolios
Assist Manager and Director on monthly/quarterly financial review process including: providing financial information and/or requested management reports; assist with follow-up of action plans
Perform complex financial analysis including compensation (FTE, salary, benefit, etc. ), revenue and supplies analysis.
Review and prepare annual operating budget and maintain up-to-date forecasts for assigned portfolios
Prepare formal written and oral presentations to internal and external decision makers
Assist with audits, perform in-depth written analysis
Identify accounting issues, process issues and make solid recommendation
Lead, actively participate and contribute in interdisciplinary meetings with different client groups
Performs cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested, including providing training and back-up support for other financial analyst, as required
Performs other duties consistent with the job classification such as business analysis and cash modeling, as required
Coordinating the preparation and analysis of schedules, statements and/or reports for distribution to internal and/or external contacts.
Liaises, as required, with site and UHN departments, external contacts, etc., to obtain information, respond to requests for information or explanation of financial and/or statistical data or site / UHN finance policies, processes and procedures, assist in training and provide technical assistance
Providing work direction and professional and technical training, guidance to new or junior finance staff and ensuring that assigned work is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
Keeping informed about current and emerging accounting issues and trends, including technological changes.
Qualifications
Advanced level knowledge of accounting concepts, techniques and principles, required
Advanced skills in accurately performing detailed numerical computations using large amounts of complex, interrelated financial and/or statistical data, required
Advanced skills in analyzing and interpreting complex financial data, required
Skill in preparing complex, detailed reports, required
Demonstrated problem solving skills, required
Excellent organizational and time management skills, required
Advanced working knowledge of computer application accounting systems and software applications preferably in a Microsoft Office environment (i.e. Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Crystal), required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, required
Demonstrated commitment to client service and satisfaction, required
Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
Experience
Four (4) years related experience in an accounting environment with broad exposure to a range of accounting concepts, principles practices and procedures, required
Experience working in a health care environment, preferred.
Education and Professional Memberships
University degree in Business Administration or equivalent program, required
Relevant combination of education and experience.
Professional Accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA), required
Relevant affiliations/memberships are encouraged
