Area of Research: Nonpharmacological interventions for dementia
Description of Duties: The Dementia Aging Technology Engagement (DATE) lab based in KITE at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (TRI), is seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to work on projects benefitting people living with dementia. The role involves close collaboration with older adults, healthcare providers, developers, designers, planners, caregivers, industry, and user experience specialists. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work closely with Dr. Astell, DATE Lab Director and AGE-WELL Challenge Area lead for Staying Connected, to support coordination and operation of the larger research program. This includes research activities of graduate students and collaborators, grant-related activities, and preparation of research reports and manuscripts for publication. The Fellow will also take leadership in organizing and participating in user-focused activities including co-creation, interactive workshops, and public-facing events. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to identify an area of interest within the research program that they will take the lead on.
A recent PhD (less than 3 years) in a health or technology-related discipline such as psychology, communication sciences, occupational therapy, nursing, kinesiology, epidemiology, public health, user-centered design or HCI.
A strong interest and background/relevant experience in ageing research with an interest in cognitive impairment.
Enthusiasm for development and adoption of new technologies is also desirable as is experience of working with stakeholder organizations and different participant groups.
Strong research skills, including data analysis and preferably experience with mixed methods
Experience conducting research from design through to research publication, as well as preparing and delivering presentations to a range of audiences
Good organizational and interpersonal skills
Strong written and oral communication
Demonstrated ability to work with other researchers, support personnel, and students in a collaborative research environment
Experience of event organization, integrated knowledge translation and exchange, participatory research methods, and trans-disciplinary work are assets.
The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.
Based on the collaborative nature of the research in the Astell Lab, this position will regularly require evening and/or weekend work.
Employment as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto is covered by the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 5 Collective Agreement.
