As an integral member of the Joint Department of Medical Imaging (JDMI), the Practice Resource serves as a hub to support practice within breast imaging. This includes supporting optimization (and standardization, where relevant) of workflows and policies in accordance with relevant regulation and principles of best practice, collaborating with relevant stakeholders (ie other practice resources, radiologists, industry representatives) to provide technical guidance on protocols and use of equipment, coordinating necessary training for staff with respect to changing practice and new equipment, and supporting the day-to-day running of the Image Quality Technologist Peer Learning Program.
The Practice Resource must demonstrate high standards of clinical practice knowledge, skill, and patient care, while also maintaining comprehensive knowledge of aligned policies and practices across JDMI partner sites (both locally and at the corporate level). It is expected that the Practice Resource will participate in academic and professional growth/development activities, courses and programs to ensure a contemporary understanding of current and emerging best practice within the breast imaging modality. As contributing members of the broader medical imaging team, the Practice Resource will work closely with other Practice Resources and Education and Practice Leads (especially in General Radiography, Ultrasound, and MRI), and will participate in quality initiatives and program development across the JDMI partner hospitals. The Practice Resource will perform cross-functional duties consistent with job classification, as required.
_Note: _ This position will include a combination of clinical breast imaging duties and administrative time to support education.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates high standards of clinical practice knowledge, skill, and judgement.
Appreciates the current guiding practice legislation and best practice frameworks.
Collaborates with relevant partners within JDMI to inform best practice in breast imaging.
Collaborates with relevant partners outside of JDMI to appreciate, inform, and integrate best practice.
Ensures that staff are appropriately equipped to provide safe and competent care through relevant training.
Demonstrates and fosters appropriate practical and pedagogical approaches to adult teaching and learning.
Maintains records to keep track of staff training and maintenance of competence requirements.
Recognizes and addresses opportunities for innovation and growth related to staff education.
Assumes responsibility for safe clinical environments.
Assumes responsibility for high quality clinical output.
Engages in relevant continuous quality improvement to address identified operational or programmatic challenges as they relate to best practice.
Performs cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.
Works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contravention’s of the Act, in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
At minimum, completion of a bachelors degree or recognized equivalent required.
At minimum over 4-6 years of practical and related experience required, at least 3 of which is in breast imaging (including both mammography and ultrasound, and in an OBSP facility).
Certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) required
Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) required
Successful completion of Mammography 1 and 2 from recognized institutions required
Venipuncture course completed and contrast injection experience, preferred
Current registration with the CAMRT preferred
Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, level II: Basic Rescuer certification, required
Word processing skills on a PC, required
