The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre has 12 site groups and 26 specialty clinics, and almost 3,000 staff who see over 400,000 patient visits every year. The University Health Network-Sinai Health Division of Cardiology seeks a PhD or clinician scientist, reporting to the Division Head and the Research Director, experienced in research and administration, to establish and lead a Research Development Hub with a mandate to become the ‘single point of research contact’ for the Division’s physicians, scientists, fellows and post-graduate trainees. The Division’s more than 60 faculty engage in research at the Toronto General, Mount Sinai, Toronto Western, Princess Margaret, Toronto Rehabilitation and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospitals and lead or participate in regional, national and international clinical trials.
Sited at the Toronto General Hospital, the successful candidate will possess the technical, analytical, organizational and communication skills required to support and develop the research activities of the division by:
Piloting its members through the research environments and processes of both University Health Network and Sinai Health (e.g. research ethics boards, research financial services, grants, contracts, material transfer agreements, core laboratories, bio-statistical support services, Foundation finance staff; commercialization of intellectual property);
Supporting investigators in the preparation of applications for graduate and fellowship support, and for project, program, and team funding from granting agencies, government agencies, philanthropic sources, non-governmental organizations and international bodies, so as to enhance the likelihood of their success;
Leading and facilitating regular meetings of the Division’s sectional and programmatic research leaders, support staff, and clinical research coordinators, with the aim of improving productivity, efficiency, and collaboration;
Engaging with research leadership and administrators within the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, the University Health Network’s Research Institutes, and the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute;
Providing administrative support for Cardiology Academic Rounds;
Identifying and publicizing within the Division new sources of research funding and awards; 7) interfacing with government research infrastructure programs;
Maintaining an inventory of current research activities, opportunities for fellows, graduate students and summer students, REB submissions and project status and tracking results;
Drafting annual Divisional research reports;
Organizing an annual symposium, highlighting Divisional research accomplishments;
Identifying highlights for media attention and tracking social media presence;
Updating, periodically, departed trainees, faculty, and community cardiologists with news of our research accomplishments; and
Flagging potential concerns for the attention of Divisional Leadership and the Research Committee.
Key Qualifications:
A PhD in a related field
At a minimum, eight (8) years of related experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to set priorities and work independently with accuracy in a fast-paced multitasking environment
Strong proficiency with MS Office software, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
