• Meet with applicants to review admission and degree program requirements and articulate academic unit, faculty, and university policies and procedures as they pertain to graduate students, and provide personalized academic advice in person, by telephone, or by e-mail to ensure prospective students have accurate information on which to make decisions regarding their academic and professional careers;
• Advise current graduate students on course selection, verifies course registration, provide referrals to support services, coordinate the transfer credit recommendation and evaluation process, and evaluate student requests such as program transfers, route change, leave of absences and voluntary withdrawals, thesis/project/practicum submission, meeting degree program requirements, and convocation in context of academic guidelines to provide accurate and timely information to students;

• Identify problems, develop solutions and lead change in program development process;
• Advise Associate Deans/Directors/Subject Area Chairs of the impacts of, and processes for, curriculum updates to the Faculty’s graduate programs and courses
• Conduct research required by Associate Dean in initiating new graduate programs, significant program revisions, and partnerships;
• Bring forward concerns and provide recommendations to change policies;

• Develop and implement pro-active strategies to forecast course scheduling;
• Provide research and data analysis to the Associate Dean and Subject Area Chairs for decision making in regards to course scheduling and student enrolment (i.e. graduate admission and registration);

• Develop, write, design, and manage a variety of resource materials for students, faculty, and staff;
• Identify, analyse, promote, and advertise funding opportunities to graduate and undergraduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty members to increase awareness and the number of applicants;
• Develop, prepare, and deliver workshops on scholarship, research, and grant opportunities, as well as strategies for success to increase the number of successful applicants;
• Work collaboratively with the Associate Dean, Research & Graduate Programs and the other staff members to build a culture of research in the Faculty;
• Assist graduate and undergraduate student, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty members in Education with the preparation and submission of scholarship and award applications, prizes, and grant/funding agency applications and processes.

Position Requirements

• A four-year University degree combined with a minimum of eight years’ related experience in a post-secondary environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of successful grant application procedures and granting agency requirements considered an asset;
• Understanding of research policies and their application in the research environment;
• Working knowledge of the organization, operation, and registration procedures;
• Ability to define, analyze, evaluate, and interpret information;
• Experience with providing sound academic advice and interpreting academic policy is considered an asset;
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a demonstrated ability to work with faculty, staff, and students from around the world with tact and diplomacy;
• Commitment to establishing working relationships across campus constituencies;
• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
• Strong communication, time management and organizational skills;
• Experience with a variety of information systems both internal to the University (e.g. BANNER student and payroll modules, CASPUR reports, Banner Workflow) and external funding agency systems (e.g. SSHRC research portal) is considered an asset;
• Experience with database software including data entry and report generation;
• Strong knowledge base of University policies and procedures and understanding of all programs;
• Honesty, integrity and commitment to maintaining high professional standards;
• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team of highly motivated and experienced individuals;
