Veterinary Tech Assistant, Surgery (Pack Room) – Maternity Leave Coverage Contract Position

The Calgary Animal Referral and Emergency Centre (CARE Centre) is welcoming for a full time Tech Assistant for a contract Maternity leave Surgery/Pack Room to join our team.
The CARE Centre is a 24-hour emergency and referral specialty hospital. We are committed to supporting pet owners and the veterinary community by providing the highest level of emergency and referral care.
The primary role of the Pack Room Animal Health Tech Assistant will be to wash, disinfect, wrap and sterilize all the surgical instruments. They will also assist the AHTs and veterinarians with daily tasks and patient care.
Some of the responsibilities include:
Perform proper restraint techniques when assisting AHT’s and veterinarians assess and treat patients
Assist veterinarians and AHT’s while they collect samples, take radiographs
Provide physical and emotional support for patients
Help to maintain the hospital treatment areas and ensure general cleanliness
Assists in preparation for surgery and transporting patients
May be asked to assist in the surgical procedure
Wash, disinfect, wrap and sterilize all instruments: including instruments from other departments in the clinic
Maintains Surgery and pack room area clean, stocked etc
Autoclaving, ordering, equipment maintenance

Previous or equivalent veterinary experience is preferred.
Schedule:
In this role, candidates must be available to work Monday-Friday.
Shifts typically Monday -Thursday OR Tuesday-Friday x10 hours each.
There will also be after hours responsibility as well to accommodate the C.A.R.E Centre’s 24 hour hospital.
