Job Description
The AD Operator (OPF) is responsible for hands on operation and monitoring of High Solids Anaerobic Digestion Facility (HSADF) and Dewatering Facility (DWF) plant systems and for continued development of knowledge of how the plant systems work together.
This position operates within a COR certified plant environment (which is a requirement of our Contract) and is required to comply with all regulatory requirements and the Client’s Environmental Management System.
The processing equipment within the facility has the potential to operate up to 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of the AD Operator (OPF) are as follows, but not limited to:
Perform biogas plant operations as instructed by Production Supervisor and/or Production Superintendent
Perform dewatering and dredge operations as instructed by Production Supervisor and/or Production Superintendent
Loading/Unloading of Tunnels & receiving material from other facilities using a Front-End Loader and operating other rolling stock as needed
Monitor biological plant parameters(e.g. pH value) to prevent digester upset, biosolids sludge concentration and other process process parameters as needed to maintain stable process.
Perform daily, weekly and routine operational checks and minor maintenance tasks, e.g. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) engine oil change and routine greasing
If any operational/technical issues arise, the operator must clearly communicate the problem and execute the instructions diligently in resolving the issue.
Adjustment of controls using HMI and/or manually to operate equipment in the recommended or prescribed operating ranges.
Monitor, compile and record all operations records and must complete shift reports at the end of each shift.
Keep management informed by maintaining records, sending reports or as needed contact by phone of any potential issues that could affect the safety or performance of the sites and or equipment
Understand and follow, if needed develop, standard operating procedures (SOP) as assigned to the team to assure your job duties are performed in a consistent, reliable and timely manner.
Performs minor equipment repair and adjustments.
Changes chemical containers, delivers needed materials, and performs general plant maintenance and housekeeping.
Clean and maintain all equipment’s and machines as per manufacturer standards.
Understands and is accountable for responsibilities as HSADF Operator as described in Sections 2-2 and 3-2 of the Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Act, the SUEZ Health & Safety Management Policy & System documentation and other relevant policies.
Conducts a Safe Work Plan (SWP) review prior to any non-routine and critical activities. Documents and maintains a record of the meeting. Verifies that all involved in a SWP understand the risks and sign the document prior to starting the job. Reviews safety and environmental practices for contractors assigned to him/her. Conducts a pre-job safety meeting with the contractor’s supervisor and his/her staff to review policies applicable to the job.
Cooperates with auditors to facilitate successful audits.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and TALENTS
Minimum high school diploma required. Candidate with diploma or equivalent will be an asset.
Computer experience necessary to include Windows, Excel, and Microsoft Word programs. SCADA/HMI is an asset but not required.
Previous experience in an industrial process plant environment is an asset but not required
In-house training on the quality systems, quality regulations, and safe work practices (including WHMIS).
In-house training on Corporate policies.
Respectful Workplace Training.
Knowledge of process plant operations and compost operations.
Knowledge and experience with biological aspects of anaerobic digestion is preferred. Experience working in water and waste water treatment plants, petro-chemical industry will also be considered.
Knowledge and experience with dewatering and dredge operation will be an asset.
Experience Operating Front End Loader, forklift, man lift or boom lift is a definite asset.
Experience or knowledge of working with chemicals and toxic gases.
Experience working on a job site performing hands-on tasks with the ability and experience using hand and electrical tools and operate heavy machinery.
Ability to work at heights and lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to trouble-shoot mechanical and electrical equipment and systems is a definite asset.
Experience working with plant control systems or high comfort level working with computers
Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.
Attentiveness to details and ability to manage a diverse workload within a fast-paced environment with changing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
Proven organizational and creative-problem solving skills.
Ability and willingness to work assigned shifts, pre-authorized overtime, and perform On-Call duties as scheduled.
Ability to wear respirator when required to meet safety guidelines due to noxious gas & dusty environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
Ability to complete all conditions of employment including negative alcohol and drug test, current and clean Class 5 driver’s license, pre-employment medical, immunizations, and background check.
Working conditions:
Works directly in Plant; required to climb ladders work at heights or in confined spaces, and be exposed to various industrial hazards such as but not limited to noise, fumes, chemicals, process gases, bloodborne and other pathogens
Required to wear respirator while in the Plant.
Exposed to Compressed/flammable gas, mobile equipment, moving equipment, rotating equipment and electrical hazards.
Hours of work:
Regular hours of work for the HSADF Operator (OPF) is based on a 40 hour work week. These hours may include evenings, nights, and weekends. A 30-minute unpaid lunch break and two 15-minute paid rest breaks are provided for each shift. Hours of work reflect operational and business needs and will be provided with a notice of work times in accordance with the Alberta Employment Standards code. Incumbent is required to perform On-Call Duties as scheduled and may be required to work pre-authorized overtime.
