Job Description
The Maintenance Supervisor plans, directs, and coordinates the Maintenance activities for the Swan Hills Treatment Centre (SHTC) to achieve operational requirements and objectives. Oversees and provides hands-on guidance, direction and training to the Maintenance staff as required. Supervises the Maintenance Team’s productivity and monitors that assigned tasks are completed in a safe, effective and efficient manner. Maintains and operates a formal preventative maintenance program.
This position operates within a COR, ISO 17025 certified, and OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 conforming plant environment and is expected to comply with all regulatory requirements. The facility operates on a 24/7 basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of the Maintenance Supervisor are as follows, but not limited to:
Understands and promotes the Company’s, the Division’s, the Plant’s and the Department’s mission statement, values, and strategic goals.
Proactively promotes through example a safe work ethic, attitude, and workplace. Monitors employees’ compliance with all health and safety policies, standards, and procedures are followed to achieve a safe work environment and safety for all staff and visitors as well as the Company’s, Client’s and Regulatory Agencies safe work objectives and requirements.
Proactively models and maintains effective working relationships and communications with peers, management, direct reports, and other Company departments and staff. Models effective conflict resolution skills and effectively resolves any conflicts in a timely and respectful manner to achieve positive and healthy working relationships and workplace environment.
Promotes a quality-first work ethic and attitude to provide a service of the highest standard achievable.
Maintains confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
Safely operates company owned, leased, or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment. Incumbent has responsibility for working-level positions on site who perform Safety Sensitive duties or responsibilities.
Plans and communicates daily work assignments to direct reports.
Spends majority of each day on plant site monitoring work assignment progress, verifying that all safety practices and procedures are being followed and adhered to. Reports status to Management on a timely basis of daily audit and progress findings.
Works closely with Production Supervisory peers to support efficient scheduling of emergency and upcoming work activities that result in enhanced reliability.
Supports Maintenance Manager by providing recommendations for budget preparation, project identification, and maintenance activities based on troubleshooting.
Maintains and operates a formal representative maintenance program.
Encourages and supports the Risk Management Process. Verifies that work groups are provided with the time, resources, and support they need to solve problems, complete their assigned work, and improve their work.
Requisitions, parts, tools, and equipment required to keep the assets and operation in a continuous reliable condition.
Verfiies that apprentices have the hands- on experience necessary for them to learn their trade and that they are being effectively mentored.
Inspects and evaluates work being performed by contractors.
Actively supports other initiatives of the Plant to promote a healthy and positive work environment and enhance employee morale and engagement.
Ensure all environmental, health and safety guidelines are respected and employed, as well as have the initiative to be aware of new policies supporting EH&S guidelines.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TALENTS:
Minimum of a Technical School Diploma in a related technology such as Mechanical Engineering or Journeyman Trades Certification.
Minimum of 5 years’ related maintenance experience in an industrial process plant environment.
Preference for 6 to 8 years’ related experience.
Prior supervisory experience is a definite asset.
Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.
Sound business acumen and ability to manage all facets of the Department.
Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills to facilitate working effectively with wide range and number of people, including peers and manager, employees, and other departments, divisions, and management within all levels of the organization.
Effective leadership and communication (both verbal and written) skills to facilitate and promote open discussions, and to effect pro-active management on a daily basis.
Effective negotiation, persuasion, and listening skills to facilitate successful resolution of employee and management concerns and requests.
Effective time management, decision-making, and planning and organizing skills.
Attentiveness to details and ability to manage a diverse workload within a fast-paced environment with changing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
Proven organizational and creative-problem solving skills
Intermediate level computer skills to operate MS Office Suite (especially Outlook, Excel, and Word)
Familiarity with preventative/predictive maintenance techniques and computerized maintenance management systems is required.
Technically and detail oriented.
Comfortable both in the field and in the office. Above average analytical and problem solving skills.
Familiarity with DCS systems, programmable controllers, building and fire prevention codes, electrical codes, gas analyzers.
Ability to work outside of regular business hours as the facility is operational 24/7.
Ability to maintain confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
Ability to complete all conditions of employment including criminal record check, negative alcohol and drug test, current and clean Class 5 driver’s license, pre-employment medical, and background check.
HOURS OF WORK:
The Maintenance Supervisor is eligible to participate in a standard Work Week Schedule, thereby working five, eight-hour days each week; however incumbent is required to work hours necessary to achieve Department and Company/Client objectives. To achieve operational requirements and business-hour coverage at all times, incumbent may be required to occasionally change/adapt their hours. Options within the standard Work Week Guidelines are Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm with a 30-minute planned lunch break. Position is based on a 40-hour work week. With prior approval, incumbent has flexibility to adapt hours to meet business and personal needs.
