What is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
The primary need is to support the business throughout contract negotiation through tightened business partnership with cross-functional teams, specifically Deal Management Team. Also, review completed deal review checklists and general revenue documents and contracts. You will be expected to critically evaluate technical accounting conclusions, customer requests and provide well-reasoned solutions to enable management, in coordination with sales, legal, finance and all other cross-function partners, to successfully conclude sales opportunities.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Review accounting position of large license agreements and revenue contracts:
Within 30 days of employment, become competent with VMware’s revenue rules, guidelines, and standard operations.
You will work closely with DMT and other cross-functional teams to ensure proper compliance with revenue recognition rules and guidelines. You will also ensure proper procedure with local accounting standards specifically, ASC 606 and US GAAP.
Forecast and properly account for revenue from respective deal negotiations
Complete compliance reviews, quarterly close activities, and ad-hoc requests
Business partnership:
Work with key partner teams during contract negotiations on evaluating business cases including the ability to develop & use fallback options.
Be prepared with and effectively present to your manager, executive leadership, or partner teams any necessary data to draw valid conclusions and resolve problems to help reduce the time until a successful sales opportunity is closed.
For non-standard deal structures you will review contracts and prepare the revenue accounting position memo and journal entries as needed.

Prepare checklists, accounting position memos and revenue related journal entries
Complete Close tasks quarterly
Review deals pre-booking to support forecasting deliverables
Manage various queries in the deal inbox

You will be joining the Revenue Assurance team. The 100+ person Revenue Assurance Team is comprised of Revenue Analysts, Managers, Accountants, Operations and Deal Assurance Specialists. The global team is spread throughout VMware offices including Palo Alto, CA, Austin, TX, Cork, IE, and Singapore.
