As an Editor on the Content Development team, you will be responsible for valuable edits and content analysis of on-platform stories, tackling all of your projects with professionalism and editorial skill. You will get content prepared for sale in the unique market of Wattpad, optimizing it for maximum audience impact by vetting content, doing structural edits, as well as correcting spelling, grammar, and syntax issues in novel-length stories in a variety of genres and styles. You will also be providing targeted editorial coaching to select writers to help them reach their full potential on Wattpad.
This is a fast-paced role that requires a high level of collaboration and flexibility, and is an exciting part of the content development process. You’ll be working with some of our top writers and helping stories become hits! (Please note: this is not an editorial position with Wattpad Books)
What you’ll be doing:
Providing superb and robust editing of stories for various content opportunities
Assisting with acquisition reads and content analysis, including flagging potential risks
Tackling edits at a variety of levels, from typo-checks to heavier-lift substantive editorial work
Responding to story-specific writer support requests in our Oracle system and providing 1:1 coaching for top-tier writers
Articulating passion for individual stories and the potential within them
Demonstrating flexibility with taking on ad hoc content and editorial requests
Helping to adjudicate our yearly writing contest, the Wattys
Participating in weekly editorial meetings and helping to mentor more junior members of the team
What we’re looking for:
You bring 2-4 years experience in editing or in a role working closely with writers/creators, helping them grow and develop in their craft
You have an eye for literary criticism and commercial markets, with a particular understanding of the unique Wattpad market
You are passionate and knowledgeable about trends in books and reading, and the influencers
in that space
You are excited to develop and work with different styles of editing depending on the specific needs of a story or program
You have strong written and oral communication skills and are incredibly detail oriented
You are a pop culture enthusiast
You are a multi-tasker who can juggle multiple projects/priorities with ease
You have a Bachelor’s or Diploma in a related field (ex. English, Publishing)
You are, of course, a Wattpadder! (Or are eager to learn!)
